Ibsen Museum Visit

Summer 2017

To your surprise, the American Travel Guide guru Rick Steves has not included the Ibsen
Museum on his list of places to visit in Oslo. https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/norway/oslo
This fact came to your attention this week as you were browsing online and reading his At A
Glance list of things to do in the city.

You have opinions about the museum, but are appalled that arguably Norways greatest
literary export is not represented on Steves list of city highlights; therefore you decide to
write a review of the Ibsen museum in the form of an appeal for his consideration to add to his
Oslo must-visit list and online guidebook.

Use your thoughts and opinions of our guided tour on Thursday, 29 June, of the Ibsen
Apartment and the time given to browse the Ibsen Museum exhibits to craft your written
response. Regardless of whether your opinion of the museum ranges from mediocre to
marvelous, you intend to write a compelling argument to Steves articulating why a dose (you
choose the size/strength of the dosage) of Ibsen is a critical element of any Oslo-experience
for an English-speaking tourist in Norway.

Your letter of appeal ought to include these four components:

1. A tweet-like short description of the Ibsen Museum, modelled on Steves

descriptions of other destinations in Oslo (see website for examples).

2. A ranking of 1-3 stars (he uses triangles) demonstrating your opinion of its importance
and value.

3. A 300-400 word persuasive piece of writing that argues for the museums inclusion on
Rick Steves list of to-dos in Oslo. The webpage offers some guidelines for
constructive feedback positive and negative about their selection of tourist
activities, and additions to their listings for improve future travelers visits. You may
use those prompts or may construct your own format.

4. Type up your writing assignment in a Word document (include your name) with the
three components listed above. Upload it to the Ibsen Museum Visit Recap folder
found in the Hand-In Assignments folder in Fronter before the end of day on Friday,
30 June.
