SKILLIN-CARROLL MORTUARY
over 50 years serving the community
Skillin-Carroll building in Fillmore was built in the early 1950s to accommodate the increasing population in Fillmore and Piru.
Since then, we have provided families with exceptional, compassionate service to handle all of their funeral and cremation needs. We
work together with surrounding cemeteries and conduct all our cremations at our own crematory. For more than
half a century, our commitment has remained unchanged and yet, our funeral home services have always responded to the changing
needs of the community.
Our mortuary offers many unique features, including our chapel. The back wall of our chapel features a stained glass window which
reflexes the light, giving an appearance of water flowing down into the chapel.
We are proud to be a member of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. When you choose
a Dignity Memorial provider, you not only receive the compassionate care you expect from a locally operated establishment, but also the
value you deserve from the largest and most trusted network of funeral, cremation and
memorialization service providers.
All of our services and professional staff are dedicated to serving families from all ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs through one
of the most personal and challenging stages of life. As a Dignity Memorial provider, we offer an array of
unmatched services, including National Transferability of Prearranged Services, the Bereavement Travel Program,
the 24-Hour Compassion Helpline and access to an acclaimed grief
management library.
The Dignity Memorial brand is your assurance of quality, value, caring service
and exceptional customer satisfaction.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
In my years as President, I've witnessed many positive transformations. Internally, changes have
been made to promote efficiency in our methods, programs and events. More importantly, I've witnessed
immense dedication from the board of directors, who have always made themselves readily available to
community members. Their open and willing character has been key when listening to suggestions and
helping businesses grow and prosper.
These transformations also include: restructuring of committees and reaching out to the City of Fillmore
Council Members, city staff members, local business owners, nearby businesses, the film industry, local
schools, universities, community members, and non-profits, in order to focus on our members' needs, and in
order to voice their needs to legislators.
It has been an honor to be your President, and as my last year approaches, I will continue to implement an
innovative approach and implement equally fresh ideas. In turn, I, along with your Board of Directors, will
continue to strive in order to reach new heights. Our unifying goal is to become one of the best, small town
Chambers in the Heritage Valley.

The Southern Pacific Railroad came through the Heritage Valley in 1886.
Joseph D. McNab who laid out the town of Fillmore in 1887,
played a big role in Fillmores development by establishing the railroad station in Fillmore.
The city was named after Jerome A. Fillmore who was the Southern Pacific superintendent.
City Hall
The railroad arrived, real estate sales were thriving and there was a strong desire to
flourish in the late 1800s and those in Fillmore wanted prosperity.
City Hall
In 1888 was when the first orange grove was laid out on five acres;
it was simply an experiment but the test was so successful that even
to this day it has brought great agricultural recognition to our city.
The Ventura County Courthouse recoded a map of Fillmore on August 1, 1888.
In 1914, Fillmore was incorporated as the City of Fillmore in Ventura County.
Since Fillmore was incorporated, City Hall has been in six different locations.
The Neo Classical building, which was built in 1997 is the sixth location and is positioned
at the corner of Central Avenue and Santa Clara Street. Today Fillmores
PIRU
population is almost 16,000 and agriculture is still the main source of income.
Come and visit the Heritage Valley, which is made up of 3 major cities:
Piru, Fillmore and Santa Paula. As you drive down this valley you will see historical,
cultural and agricultural beauty all along the banks of the Santa Clara River. The
Heritage Valley is between Valencia and Ventura and is home to Highway 126.
If you head west on the 126 Highway from Santa Clarita you will discover the
beautiful Rancho Camulos. As you drive down the 126 highway you will notice the green
mountains that burst with green during the spring time and rows and rows of fresh avocado,
orange and lemon trees; not only that but you will also see other crops such as peppers,
tomatoes and much more. There are many fruit stands along the way and the people serving
there are always welcoming. Places to stopover when near Fillmore are the Bennetts
Honey Farm and the Giessinger Winery & Tasting Room. So if you are craving
some rich red wine or sweet and delicate honey do take a brake and come visit the Heritage
Valley. The Condor Sanctuary and Fillmore Fish Hatchery are different sights and
stops which are found comfortably along Los Padres National Forest. There are so
many places to see, visit and things to do in the area, so do yourself a favor and come enjoy
them. The best part is that they are located conveniently about an hour north of
Los Angeles, a little over an hour south of Bakersfield and only an hour
east of Santa Barbara.
