WELCOMING BACK OUR ANCESTORS!

August 19 th 2010 11:00am Bellevue Park

1:00pm Goulais Mission

Remains
of
our
Ancestors
are
coming
home
where
they
belong!

In
1850
staff
at
Fort
Brady
Michigan
excavated
the
resting
place
of
our
Ancestors
for
the

purpose
of
performing
scientific
experiments.
These
remains,
somehow,
for
some
unexplained
reason,

are
now
being
held
at
the
Smithsonian
in
Washington
DC.

It
was
not
until
the
Sault
Tribe
in
Michigan
were
planning
to
repatriated
some
of
their
own

Ancestors
when
they
were
notified
about
BFN
having
remains
on
site,
at
the
Smithsonian.

Batchewana
First
Nation
in
collaboration
with
Sault
Tribe
have
been
working
closely
for
the
past

5
years
to
bring
them
home.
The
process
for
the
release
of
the
remains
is
a
long
one
but
with
our
unique

historical
background,
and
our
handed
down
teachings,
our
Ancestors
were
easily
identified
as

Batchewana
First
Nation,
objects
buried
with
them,
and
the
traditional
markings
of
our
ceremonies

were
clearly
present.

We
ask
all
Batchewana
First
Nation
Members
come
out
to
see,

feel,
and
breathe,
the
traditional
teachings
through
ceremony,
and
to

be
part
of
this
historical
event!

Tentative
agenda:

Sault
Michigan

‐ Thursday
August
19
2010

of
our
ancestors

the

home
across
the
St.
Maries
River,
arriving
at
Bellevue
Park
at
approximately

11am.
We
are
asking
all
