DREAMS

Blind People Dream

Who become blind after birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind
do not see any images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of
sound, smell, touch and emotion. It is hard for a seeing person to imagine, but the body
need for sleep is so strong that it is able to handle virtually all physical situations to
make it happen.

You Forget 90% of your Dreams

Within 5 minutes of waking, half of your dream if forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone.

Curiously, Robert Louis Stevenson came up with the story of Doctor Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde whilst he was dreaming.

Everybody Dreams
Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder) but men
and women have different dreams and different physical reactions. Men tend to dream
more about other men, while women tend to dream equally about men and women. In
addition, both men and women experience sexually related physical reactions to their
dreams regardless of whether the dream is sexual in nature; males experience
*****ions and females experience increased vaginal blood flow.

Dreams Prevent Psychosis

In a recent sleep study, students who were awakened at the beginning of each dream,
but still allowed their 8 hours of sleep, all experienced difficulty in concentration,
irritability, hallucinations, and signs of psychosis after only 3 days. When finally allowed
their REM sleep the student brains made up for lost time by greatly increasing the
percentage of sleep spent in the REM stage

We Only Dream of What We Know

Our dreams are frequently full of strangers who play out certain parts - did you know
that your mind is not inventing those faces - they are real faces of real people that you
have seen during your life but may not know or remember? The evil killer in your latest
dream may be the guy who pumped petrol in to your Dad car when you were just a little
kid. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces through our lives, so we have an
endless supply of characters for our brain to utilize during our dreams.

Not Everyone Dreams in Colour

A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number
dream in full colour. People also tend to have common themes in dreams, which are
situations relating to school, being chased, running slowly/in place, sexual experiences,
falling, arriving too late, a person now alive being dead, teeth falling out, flying, failing
an examination, or a car accident. It is unknown whether the impact of a dream relating
to violence or death is more emotionally charged for a person who dreams in colour than
one who dreams in black and white.

Dreams are not about what they are about

If you dream about some particular subject it is not often that the dream is about that.
Dreams speak in a deeply symbolic language. The unconscious mind tries to compare your
dream to something else, which is similar. Its like writing a poem and saying that a group
of ants were like machines that never stop. But you would never compare something to
itself, for example: That beautiful sunset was like a beautiful sunset. So whatever
symbol your dream picks on it is most unlikely to be a symbol for itself.

Quitters have more vivid dreams

People who have smoked cigarettes for a long time who stop, have reported much more
vivid dreams than they would normally experience. Additionally, according to the Journal
of Abnormal Psychology: Among 293 smokers abstinent for between 1 and 4 weeks, 33%
reported having at least 1 dream about smoking. In most dreams, subjects caught
themselves smoking and felt strong negative emotions, such as panic and guilt. Dreams
about smoking were the result of tobacco withdrawal, as 97% of subjects did not have
them while smoking and their occurrence was significantly related to the duration of
abstinence. They were rated as more vivid than the usual dreams and were as common as
most major tobacco withdrawal symptoms.

External Stimuli Invade our Dreams

This is called Dream Incorporation and it is the experience that most of us have had
where a sound from reality is heard in our dream and incorporated in some way. A
similar (though less external) example would be when you are physically thirsty and your
mind incorporates that feeling in to your dream. My own experience of this includes
repeatedly drinking a large glass of water in the dream which satisfies me, only to find
the thirst returning shortly after - this thirst ¦ drink¦ thirst¦ loop often recurs until I
wake up and have a real drink. The famous painting above (Dream Caused by the Flight
of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening) by Salvador Dali, depicts
this concept.
You are paralyzed while you sleep

Believe it or not, your body is virtually paralysed during your sleep - most likely to
prevent your body from acting out aspects of your dreams. According to the Wikipedia
article on dreaming, Glands begin to secrete a hormone that helps induce sleep and
neurons send signals to the spinal cord which cause the body to relax and later become
essentially paralysed.
 Thousands flee Myanmar for Thailand
Tajikistan News.Net : Friday 18th September, 2009
Children as young as 10 are being forced to work as porters for the Myanmar military and ethnic minority Karen
troops.

The accelerating trend comes amid intensifying conflict near the border with Thailand , according to refugees in
northern Thailand , Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports.

One village in a Karen region houses 95 Myanmar refugees, including thirty nine children under the age of 12. All
say they were taken from their villages in Myanmar (which is also known as Burma ) and forced to work as military
porters. The increased press-ganging of villagers, including children, into work as porters comes in the wake of
intensified fighting between Myanmar government forces supported by elements of the Democratic Karen Buddhist
Army (DKBA) on one side and the mostly Christian Karen National Union (KNU) troops on the other, the refugees
said.

Thousands more are believed also to have fled their homes in Myanmar since June and to be hiding in villages on
the Thai side of the border, according to human rights and aid workers. The prolonged military conflict in the region
has meant that none of the Karen children has ever been able to attend school. "I am 10 years old," one shy girl
told a visiting reporter. Another, who said she was 16, said she had to carry dozens of cans of rice in a basket on
her back for five days at a stretch and was given only rice with salt and chili peppers to eat. "When it rained, we
had to sleep under trees, so we would get completely wet," she said.

Myanmar soldiers forced anyone who had no physical disability to carry goods and ammunition for them, the
refugees said. No one was paid for his or her labor. The porters said they don't know if the troops who press-
ganged them into service belong to the DKBA or a joint force comprising soldiers for the DKBA and the ruling
junta. Fathers with children able to walk on their own but not big enough to work as porters themselves must hold
onto their children while carrying ammunition on their backs, sometimes pulling the children through heavy jungle
vegetation, they said. Parents and children are required to sleep separately to prevent them from running away,
they said, and the men are told their wives will be taken by soldiers if they try to flee.
Parents in the camp said they had no choice but to bring their children, as the only people left behind in their
villages were very elderly or too disabled to look after anyone but themselves. One woman carrying her three-
year-old son in a sling in front of her demonstrated how she had to carry artillery shells in a basket on her back at
the same time. If her child cried, she was told to put her hand over his face to silence him or face a reprimand from
the soldiers. She said she had had to carry the shells for four days at a time and was allowed to stop and rest only
two or three times a day. "In the past, they would need porters only once a month," said the head of the village that
the group of refugees left behind them.

"But now they need them three or four times a month, and we would even have to go to the front line. We would
have to supply three soldiers per village, and if the village was bigger we would have had to supply up to 20
soldiers," he said. "If we cannot supply the soldiers we would have to pay 30,000 baht (about U.S. $880). If we
cannot give them the money, they would send us to jail," he added. Karen refugees have so far received no aid
from international agencies, nor from the Thai government, they said. Sometimes, soldiers from the DKBA stole
their goods, even on the Thai side of the border, they added. "When I left I brought with me the best bullock I had,
but when I got to Thailand the DKBA stole the bullock from me," she said. "I had to pay them 1,500 baht (U.S. $44)
to get my bullock back."

According to the Myanmar-based Karen Human Rights Group, the DKBA began a stepped-up recruitment drive in
August 2008 in response to an escalating series of DKBA and joint DKBA/government attacks on KNU and Karen
National Liberation Army (KNLA) positions in the Dooplaya and Pa'an Districts of Karen state. Those attacks have
greatly intensified since the start of the year, the group said in a report published on its Web site.

Partly under the control of the Myanmar government, the DKBA has again increased recruitment as it prepares to
transform itself into a Border Guard Force as required by the military junta ahead of elections in 2011. "By June 7,
over 3,000 villagers, including the Ler Per Her camp population of just over 1,200 people as well as nearly 2,000
residents from other villages in the area, had fled to neighboring Thailand to avoid fighting as well as forced
conscription into work as porters and human minesweepers for DKBA and SPDC forces," the group said Aug. 25.

The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, says there are more than 100,000 registered Myanmar refugees
inside Thailand today, most of them Karen.
 Indian Soldier
A tribute to the Defence Forces of INDIA

Your alarm goes off; you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10 minutes He stays up for days on end

You take a warm shower to help you wake up He goes days or weeks without running water

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends He still fights for your
right to wear that shirt

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you He knows he may not see some of his buddies ever again

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and
terrorists
You complain about how hot it is He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong He doesn't get to eat today

Your wife/mother/ maid makes your bed and washes your clothes
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean

You go to the mall and get your hair redone He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume

You roll your eyes as a baby cries

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything...

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the
wounded - and of the innocents who have no one to stand up for them

You see only what the media wants you to see He sees the broken bodies lying around him

You stay at home and watch TV He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep and eat

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5
minute nap, only to be awakened by gunfire You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse
place because of men like him If only there were more men like him !

WHO is HE? If you support him, then please re-send this to everyone you know... Perhaps people will change
their attitude and behavior to support HIS worthy cause... HE is sacrificing his today for our future INDIA !!!

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when Charles de Gaulle decided to pull out of
NATO. De Gaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded "does that include those who are buried here?

In England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just
an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying,

'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond
our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.'

At a conference in France where a number of international engineers were participating, one of the French engineers came
into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to
help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred
people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias
with the capacity to feed over 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from
sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight
deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., England, Canada, Australia and
France . At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of
those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas
Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak
English in these conferences rather than speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, 'Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged
it so you wouldn't have to speak German.'

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his
passport in his carry on bag.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible! Americans always have to show a passport upon arrival in France !"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha
Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."

You could have heard a pin drop.

Allergy-Proof Your Environment
Medicines help treat allergy symptoms once they strike, but there are several steps you can take to prevent allergy
symptoms altogether. The following recommendations can help you avoid allergy triggers whether you're at home,
outdoors, or out on the town.

Allergy-Proof Your Home

 Keep windows closed and use air conditioning if you're allergic to pollen. Don't use fans since they can stir
up dust.
 Filter the air. Cover air conditioning vents with cheesecloth to filter pollen and use high efficiency
particulate air filters. Clean air filters frequently and air ducts at least once a year.
 Keep the humidity in your house below 50% to prevent mold growth.
 If you have pets, consider keeping them outside or perhaps ask someone else to take care of them. Animal
dander and saliva are common allergens for many people. If you must keep your pets indoors, do not allow
them in the bedroom and be sure to bathe them often.
 Avoid areas where molds may collect, including basements, garages, crawl spaces, barns, and compost
heaps. Have someone else clean these areas often.
 Install dehumidifiers in basements and other areas of the house where molds tend to collect. Clean these
devices every week.
 Air out damp clothes and shoes (in the house) before storing.
 Remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Don't leave wet clothes in the washer where mold can
quickly grow.
 Wash shower curtains and bathroom tiles with mold-killing solutions.
 Don't collect too many indoor plants as soil encourages mold growth.
 Store firewood outside.
 Use hypoallergenic covers for pillows, mattresses and box springs. Avoid overstuffed furniture and down-
filled bedding or pillows.
 Wash your bedding every week in hot water.
 Don't allow smoking in your house.
 Wear a mask and gloves when cleaning, vacuuming, or painting to limit dust and chemical exposure.
 Vacuum twice a week.
 Limit throw rugs to reduce dust and mold. If you do have rugs, make sure they are washable.
 When possible, choose hardwood floors instead of carpeting. If you must have carpeting, choose low-pile
material.
 Avoid dust-collecting Venetian blinds or long drapes. Replace old drapes with window shades instead.
 Make sure there is an exhaust fan over the stove to remove cooking fumes.

Allergy-Proof Your Car

 Keep windows closed and set the air conditioner to use recirculated air if you are allergic to pollen
 Don't permit smoking in the car.

Allergy-Proof the Outdoors

 Minimize walks in wooded areas or gardens.

 Check the forecast. Stay indoors as much as possible on hot, dry, windy days when pollen counts are
generally the highest.
 Try to avoid extreme temperature changes -- they are triggers for some people with asthma.
 If possible, stay indoors between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. when outdoor pollen counts are usually highest.
 Wear a mask (such as an inexpensive painter's mask) when mowing the lawn if you are allergic to grass
pollen or mold. Avoid mowing and being around freshly cut grass if possible.
 Wear a mask when gardening, as flowers and some weeds release pollen and can cause allergy symptoms.
 Avoid raking leaves or working with hay or mulch if you are allergic to mold.
 After being outdoors, take a shower, wash your hair, and change your clothes to remove pollen that may
have collected in your clothes and hair.
 To protect yourself from insect stings, wear shoes, long pants and sleeves, and do not wear scented
deodorants, perfumes, shampoos or hair products.
 Don't hang clothes or linens outdoors to dry, as pollen and molds may collect in them and can make your
allergies worse.

Allergy-Proof Your Travels

o Pack your allergy drugs with you in your carry-on bag.

o Bring an extra supply of medicines in case you need them.

Allergy-Proof Your Hotel

o Ask for a nonsmoking room.

o Remove feather pillows and ask for synthetic, nonallergenic pillows -- or bring your own
hypoallergenic pillow cover from home.
o If possible, keep the vent on the room air conditioner shut.

Allergy-Proof While Dining Out

o Eat in smoke-free restaurants.

o For food allergies, avoid the foods that cause your allergy symptoms by carefully reading ingredient
labels and asking about the food preparation methods when dining out. Choose fresh foods rather
than prepared or processed foods. If you have severe reactions, such as anaphylaxis, carry an
epinephrine injection kit with you at all times.

 Allergy-Proof Your Child’s School

o Discuss your child's allergies with school personnel.

o If your child suffers from food allergies, discuss them with school officials, teachers, and lunchroom
staff.
o Educate your child about his/her allergies early, so your child can learn to avoid situations where he
or she may eat a food that will trigger an allergic reaction. Arrange for an epinephrine kit to be left
at the school, and make sure school officials (and your child when they are old enough) are able to
use it correctly.
o Inform school personnel about the allergy medications your child is taking and make arrangements
to leave necessary medicines at school.
o Encourage sports participation, but inform coaches of allergy medications that may need to be taken
before activities.
