Sample Fantasy Basketball Rules

I. TEAMS AND ROSTERS

1.1. There will be 12 teams in the League. Each team must have a minimum of 15 players
and a maximum of 18 players when the auction concludes. Until the conclusion of the
auction the following year, there is no maximum or minimum number of players per team
(except as set forth in 10.4).

1.2. A team's active lineup must consist of 12 players and must include the following:
Two Centers
Four Forwards
Four Guards
One Rookie

II. AUCTION

2.1. Each team must acquire at least 15 players in the auction at a total cost not to exceed
$260. A team need not spend the maximum. However, a teams salary cap number may
not be lower than $200 during the season, as set forth in Rule 12.2 below.

2.2. Teams will nominate players for bidding in a random order determined before the
Auction, starting with the winner from the previous year. Nominations must be submitted
within 1 minute of the conclusion of the previous bid, or the teams nomination will be
skipped. No team may nominate a player for bidding unless the team has at least $1
available to bid. The winning team from the previous year will make the first nomination
of the auction.

2.3. The following players are eligible for the auction:

Any player who is on an NBA team roster at the time of the auction;
Any player who has been drafted by an NBA team at any time;
Any player who has in the past been on an NBA roster; and
Any player who attended a U.S. college or junior college for at least one season, used a
year of college eligibility during that season and who is ineligible (as a result of retaining
an agent or otherwise) to return to college. Players not yet in the NBA (e.g., playing in
Europe, college or high school) are not eligible for the auction.

2.4. The team bidding first opens with a salary bid of at least $1 for any eligible player
and the bidding proceeds at minimum increments of $1 until only one bidder is left. That
team acquires the nominated player for the final bid amount. The process is repeated,
with successive owners nominating players to be bid on, until every team has acquired 18
players or each team has spent all of its money.

2.5. No team may make a bid for a player it cannot afford. For example, a team with $3
left and only 13 players on its roster is limited to a maximum bid of $2 for one player
(leaving $1 for the other unfilled roster spot.)
2.7. The salary of a player acquired in the auction is his final bid amount.

2.8 No team need inform any other team of its remaining bid dollars amount at any time
during the auction. Either a large board tracking dollar totals will be used at the auction or
teams will be required to disclose their remaining dollar amount every 15 minutes.

III. POSITION ELIGIBILITY

3.1. Players who are obtained by auction will generally have the positions designated to
them by the sportsline.com website at the time of the auction. A player who appears on
more than one of these position lists is eligible at both positions. There are 2 instances in
which the website designations may not apply: (1) in the case of keepers, the players
position will not be altered until such time as the player is not retained by an owner and is
eligible for the auction, regardless of what the website says; (2) the commissioner may
alter the eligibility for certain key players to maintain consistency from year to.

3.2 An official list will be distributed by email to all teams prior to the auction, and this
will be the official list for the season. A hard copy will also be brought to the auction so
that all player position questions can be answered prior to bidding.

3.3 Players retained from the previous year will have the same positional eligibility as
when they were obtained in the auction, as noted above.

IV. FEES

4.1. The entrance fee for the league is $100.

4.2. All fees must be paid by to the commissioner by the date of the auction.

4.3. There are no fees for trades or free agent acquisitions during the season.

V. PLAYER SALARIES

5.1. The salary of a player does not change during the season.

5.2. The salary of a player acquired in auction is his auction price.

5.3. The salary for a player retained for subsequent seasons will be adjusted as set forth
below.

5.4 The salary of a player who was not auctioned but is picked up as a free agent will be
$1.

5.5 In addition to a salary, players will also have a cap number. In most cases, the cap
number and salary will be the same. However, in the case of a keeper who is traded for
dollars prior to the auction, that players cap number will equal his salary plus the amount
of dollars paid to acquire him in the trade. The players cap number in such cases will be
what counts against the salary cap.

VI. PRIZE MONEY

6.1. The money shall be divided among the first three teams in the yearly final standings
as follows:
First Place $700
Second Place $200
Third Place $100

6.2 The second half prize has been eliminated until such day as a more sensible
version of it can be agreed on.

VII. STANDINGS

7.1. The following categories are used to determine team performance:

Total Points
Three Pointers Made
Free Throws Made
FG Percentage
Assists
Blocks
Steals
Rebounds

7.2. Teams are ranked from first to last in each of the eight categories, and given points
for each place. There is a two point bonus for winning each category. For example, in a
12 team league, the first-place team in a category receives 14 points, the second-place
team 11, and so on down to one point for last place. The team with the most total points
wins the league.

7.3. In case of ties in an individual category, the tied teams are assigned points by totaling
points for the rankings at issue and dividing by the total number of teams tied.

VIII. STATS

8.1. CBS Sportsline will be the statistical service and will constitute the official statistics
for our league. Any problems with statistics/player moves etc. must be reported to the
commissioner within one week. After that, any changes fall under the discretion of the
commissioner.
8.2. The effective date of any transaction for purposes of statistical calculation is prior to
the start of games each Monday. Transactions made after such time will not be effective
until the following Monday.

8.3. Performance statistics of a player shall be assigned to a Rotisserie League team only
when he is on the active roster of that team.

8.4. All regular season statistics from the NBA will be included. Statistics from playoffs
are not included.

IX. TRADES

9.1. From the day of the auction until midnight on March 15, rotisserie league teams are
free to make trades of any kind, subject to the salary cap and floor limitations set forth in
Section 12.

9.2. No trade may take place from March 16 until the last day of the regular season.

9.3. Player-for-player trades may be made at any time during the off-season.

9.4. Between 7pm (EST) on the Sunday before the auction (the deadline for submission
of keeper lists) and the start of the auction, teams may include auction dollars in trades
involving retained players. The salary of such players will be their adjusted cap amount
from the previous year (as described below) and not the dollar amount paid in the swap.
The cap number for such players will be their adjusted salary plus the amount paid for
them in the swap.

9.5. There are no limits to the number of trades a team may make during the season.

9.6. Except as set forth in 9.4, trades may only involve players and auction money may
not be traded.

9.7 All trades must be reported to the entire league by email at the same time. A trade is
not binding until it is reported. If parties desire to wait until a trade deadline to
announce a trade, they may do so, but the trade is not binding until the announcement
and either party may back out of the deal before the announcement.

9.8 Trades may not be contingent on a future event occurring.

9.9 All trades must involve at least 1 player. Trades involving only the exchange of free
agent expansion picks are not legal.

X. FREE-AGENTS AND WAIVERS

10.1. Any player who is on an active NBA roster and not owned by another rotisserie
team, may be acquired as a free agent during the designated free agent acquisition
periods.

10.2. Beginning in Period 6, free agents may be claimed via the procedure detailed in

10.3. Each team will submit to the commissioner a list of players (in order) that they wish
to acquire from the free agent pool. The commissioner will send his list to another owner
of his choice. The list will be due no later than 3 pm (EST) on Tuesday. The maximum
number of free agents that can be acquired on any given Tuesday by each team is one.
Teams will be given preference for acquiring free agents in the reverse order of the
standings as of that Monday at noon. I.e., the commissioner will go through each list
submitted in the reverse order of standings and assign to each team the highest rated
player on the respective list who is still available. Each that picks up a player that is
required to drop one (see 10.4 and 10.5) must do so by Thursday at 3pm. Owners may
then submit a second list by Friday at 3pm EST. If this necessitates a drop, it must be
done so by Sunday at 8pm EST.

10.4 If a free agent acquisition causes a team to have more than 18 players, such team
must drop a player to get back down to a roster of 18. Dropped players will be available
as free agents in the following free agent period.

10.5 If a team is required to drop a player, he must drop someone that was on his roster
at the time he submitted his list of free agent pickups. The player dropped must also meet
one of the following conditions: (1) have been obtained in the auction or as a free agent;
(2) have been obtained in a trade for at least 1 player (not just for a pick); or (3) have
been obtained no later than the end of the last expansion period.

10.6. Teams are not required to submit any free agent acquisition lists.

10.7. Players acquired via free agency (other than those for whom a salary was
established at the auction but were dropped during a free agent period) will be assigned a
cap number of $1 but will have no salary and will not be eligible to be retained for the
subsequent season.

10.8 There will be additional free agent periods every even-numbered period through
Period 16 (or the period containing the All-star weekend, whichever comes first).

XI. ROSTER PROTECTION AND CONTRACTS

11.1. From season to season, each team may retain up to 5 players. There is no minimum
on the number of players that may be retained (i.e., a team may choose to retain no
players).
11.2. A player may not be retained for more than three seasons (the year he is acquired in
the auction plus three retention years) without being returned to the auction pool. A trade
does not restart the retention period.

11.3. The names of the players being retained must be submitted to the commissioner no
later than the Sunday preceding the auction at 7pm (EST). The commissioner will then
circulate a list of all retained players (along with their respective salaries) to all team
owners. A player who has been announced as a keeper may be released back into the
auction between the keeper deadline and the time of the auction but the owner must pay a
penalty of forfeiting the greater of 10% of the players salary or $3.

11.4. If a player is not retained, he is available to all teams (including the team electing
not to retain such player) in the next auction.

11.5. If a player is retained by his team, the salary for such player will be the following:

1st season of retention: salary from the prior season plus the greater of (i) 10% of
such salary (rounded to the nearest dollar) or (ii) $5.
2nd season of retention: salary from the prior season plus $10
3rd season of retention: salary from the prior season plus $15.

11.6 An owner who acquires a player in a trade under section 9 will have the exact
same rights to retain the player (both in terms of salary and remaining seasons of
retention) as the disposing owner would have had.

XII.SALARY CAP

12.1 At no point during the season may a teams total salary cap number exceed $320.
As noted above, in the case of a keeper traded for dollars, the keepers cap
number is equal to his salary plus the amount of dollars traded for him.

12.2 At no point during the season may a teams total salary cap number fall below
$200.

12.3 Any trade that would cause either teams total cap number to exceed $320 or fall
below $200 is invalid.
