Other forms of assessment

Interviews are probably the most popular method of selection. They often sit alongside, or are
informed by, other kinds of assessment process. Thinking about selection in your own
organisation as well as your personal experience, how many different methods of assessment
can you think of?

Here are some of our ideas:

work samples where you ask candidates to perform selected tasks, similar to those
performed on the job

taking up references

psychometric testing this can include aptitude tests (verbal, numerical and spatial
abilities for example) as well as personality tests

assessment centres based on assessing candidates in a number of different ways

interviews the oldest and most widely used approach.
