FI5205 Corporate Responsibility and Ethics

Exam essay topics FI5205 spring 2017

Length of essay: 10-12 pages in 12 p Times New Roman, 1,5 spacing.

Choose one of the following two topics:

1. The globalization of the economy and the rise of big, multinational corporations has led to
more focus on the social responsibility of business. Matten and Crane (2005) and Palazzo
and Scherer (2011) argue that this development implies a new political role for corporations.
Give an account of their view, and use examples to show how corporations can be global,
political actors. On this basis, discuss whether big corporations have a responsibility to
contribute to solving global challenges such as climate change and poverty.
2. Give an account of Robert Solomons (1992) Aristotelian approach to business ethics, and
on this basis discuss the claim by Albert Z. Carr (referred to by Solomon), that the standards
of right and wrong are different in business than in society in general.

Deadline for submitting the assignment (exam) is May 9th before 14.00 at Department
of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Dragvoll, Lven.
NB! It is not allowed to deliver after 14.00 May 9th.
If you send the assignment by post it must reach the department before the deadline.
It is not allowed to send assignments via e-mail.
The assignment should be delivered in TWO copies, with front page and declaration. Each
copy should be single stapled and without a sheet protector. The declaration must be
delivered separately.
