Comparison between the loadings on the first principal component (PC1) of all the 39 chrono-
functional indicators, calculated either using only trees with pith observed on increment cores ( obs), or
adding to obs those trees recovered with the pith reconstruction procedure (rec; Appendix S1). The gray
shading indicates those metrics discarded as not significant (loadings 90% of the highest one). Lines: red,
regression line with slope =1 and intercept =0; black, line regressed on data. When matching the significant
PC1 loadings obtained using (obs+rec) to those obtained using only obs, the mean (SE) percentage change
was 0.50.1%.
