Topic: Obesity
Why we choose this
topic
Reason: We chose this topic because we
feel that Singapore has too many
obese/fat people even in schools which
are becoming more and more common.
Obesity also concerns the health of the
obese people.
Objective: To reduce the number of
obese/fat people in Catholic High
Secondary School.
Statistics
Singapore: 637,076 people obese
Indonesia: 34,891,277 people obese
Malaysia: 3,441,892 people obese
Thailand: 9,491,352 people obese
Vietnam: 12,095,512 people obese
Philippines: 12,619,189 people
obese
Laos: 887,908 people obese
USA: 42,968,694 people obese
China: 190,051,967 people obese
Japan: 18,631,814 people obese
South Korea: 7,057,733 people
obese
Taiwan: 3,328,836 people obese
India: 155,844,889 people obese
Sri Lanka: 2,912,593 people obese
Brazil: 26,938,323 people obese
France: 8,841,484 people obese
Solution
Our solution for obesity is to eat a balanced diet
and exercise regularly, eat less oily food and try
to eat more green vegetables and reduce sugar
intake. The person must also plan a schedule in
which he must exercise and eat more vegetables.
We also put up a few posters around the school
warning people of the dangers for being obese
and the possible ways to prevent it.

Survey
Roughly about 30 students have taken our
survey and most of them agree that obesity is
harmful and can cause us harm. However there is
a very small percentage had disagreed that being
obese is bad for one’s health. Even though some
of them disagreed, but generally the students
understand that obesity is not good for their
health.

Conclusion
There is a large increase obesity rate in recent
year compared to previous years. This is because
of the rising trends of fast food and better tasting
food which tend to be more oily and unhealthy.
The advancement of transportation also leads to
more people taking public transport and driving
instead of walking or cycling and that would in
turn lead to higher rates of obesity if people do
not exercise regularly. We hope that our statistics
and facts would let obese people realize that
obesity is a serious issue and if left untreated,
can lead to serious health problems.
