Rob Hoffman and Bill Walker Jr. Inducted into Monmouth County USBC Hall of Fame
HAZLET, NJ - Monmouth County USBC recently held its Hall
of Fame and Awards Dinner celebration and installation of offi-
cers at The Gramercy at Lakeside Manor, Hazlet, New Jersey.
Rob Hoffman and Bill Walker Jr. were inducted into the Hall
of Fame for bowling achievement, Lauren Lella and Bill Sims,
as bowlers of the year.
Amanda Dorner, Sarah Florence, and Aimee Sherman, earned
scholarship recognition for academic and bowling achieve-
ment.
Also at the event the NJ State USBC WBA presented their 20
year service award to Paulette King of the Monmouth County
USBC. Paulette has been an avid worker for more than 20
years.
As an active Monmouth County USBC board member, she has
been involved with most of their tournaments as she tirelessly
promote and continues to promote the sport through interaction
on the lanes in competition, and helping to run the tournament
by keeping score, collecting for the 50-50 raffle, or doing what-
ever she see needs to be done.
William (Bill) Walker Jr. during his first year in the mens
leagues when high average in the county was around 200.
Since then Bill has excelled on the lanes, participating in events
and leagues sponsored by the Monmouth County USBC,

Bill was awarded Monmouth County USBC high average in Regional circuit for many years and has a reached multiple
1985, has three 800 series, fourteen 300 games, three 11 in a finals competition.

average of 218.
Bill earned many county championships and was the 1985
county tournament all events champion and awarded the Joe
Simeone Trophy for high game in the 1979 County
Tournament. His team took first place in the 1978 County
Tournament Team Event, first place in the 1987 Bahr Trophy
Event, and second place in the 2012 county tournament team
event. He has also had many other second and third place fin-
ishes in Monmouth County tournaments.
In 2007, Bill won the Monmouth County Masters Tournament
and holds the record for the highest two game score of 528 in a
Masters title match. Bills father also won the Masters
Tournament in 1970, 1971 and 1972. Bill and his father are the
only father and son to have both won the Monmouth County
Masters Tournament. Bill joins an elite group of father and son
Monmouth County hall of famers that includes John Paris and
Armand Federici Jr.
Rob Hoffman has been a consistently outstanding bowler for
more than 30 years, mostly in Monmouth County, but also in
Middlesex County as well. He has competed on the PBA

Rob has averaged over 230 three times in the last 3 years in leagues
and over 220 in the last 20 years. In league and tournaments, he has
eleven 800 series and at least 25 series of 750-799. He also achieved at
least thirty 300 games, four 299s, 298s, and twelve 11 in a row with
games 290-296.
He has participated in the County Masters for 27 years finishing in the
top 10 five times. To his credit, he finished in the finals in the NJ State
Masters seven times.
He has competed in the PBA finals sixteen times and the PBA50 finals
three times placing 4th place in both in 2014.
Rob also competed in the USBC Open Championship and had an all-
time all events high score of 2042. He has competed in the Monmouth
County Open Championship Tournament for at least 20 years, and has
received at least one county title and was on the NJ State Open
Championship Team as well.
Rob was also on the championship team in the County Bahr Trophy
Event in 1999 and 2003.
In 1989, he won the Scratch Marathon in Connecticut and in 1993 he
placed 2nd in three events. In the American Bowlers Association, Rob
won the event in 1991 and 1992. Other first and second place finishes
were: World Team Challenge in 1998, John Vargo Singles Tournament
in 2001, PBA Challenge Tournament Doubles in 2005, the Bahr Trophy
Event in 2009, the Shore Lanes Scratch Tourney in 2014, Bradley Bowl
King of the Hill in 2014 twice, and the Lanes at Sea Girt in 2014.

THE CHARLES H. BRYDE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Amanda Dorner
Amanda Dorner is one of the recipients for the
Monmouth County USBC Scholarship for the year of
2017.
While attending Howell High School, she was on
the varsity bowing team all four years, finishing her
senior year with a 182 average. Amanda is a two-time
All-District member of the Freehold Regional All-
District Team, a three-time Shore Conference indi-
vidual qualifier and an All-Star member of the
Fairleigh Dickinson University Holiday Classic
Tournament. She was inducted into the Howell High
School Hall of Fame for her bowling achievements.
Amanda also gives back to the community by vol-
unteering her time at the Howell Lanes Brat Pack
League, coaching the children and teaching them the
basics of bowling.
Amandas highest series were all in the 600s having
bowled 675, 672, and 645 from the 2014/2015
through 2016/2017 bowling seasons respectively.
Her highest games were 244 in 2014/2015, 266 in
2015/2016 and 233 during the 2016/2017 school
year. Local/State Tournament titles won include 1st
place Monmouth County Adult Youth in 2016, and
well as several 1st place titles in JBT tourneys.
Amanda is a 2 year member of the National
Honor Society and graduated from Howell High
School with a 4.5 GPA, having taken 9 Honors
Classes and 7 AP Classes. She will be attending
NJIT in the Fall, majoring in Engineering and
hopes to continue her bowling career at the
scholastic level throughout college.
Sarah Florence
While attending Cedar Creek High School, Sarah
Florence was extremely focused on her academic
schedule and extra-curricular activities, yet
Sarahs passion for bowling made her persevere
with the sport even though her school did not have
an official bowling team.
Throughout her high school career, she spent
numerous hours a week practicing bowling and
due to her self-motivation and drive she was able
to compete at the Regional and State competitions
through her high school having met all of the nec-
essary scoring requirements. Her highest average
during the 2016/2017 season was 186 and one of
her greatest achievements this past season was 3rd
high game in the NJSIAA sectionals.
In addition to her involvement with the Drama,
Choral Program and Environmental clubs, Sarah
also volunteers her time at her church and at
Special Olympics events. She leads by example, is
a positive leader and takes pride in helping others.
Sarahs highest series range from 686 in
2014/2015 to 702 in 2015/2016 and 696 in
2016/2017. Her highest games were 268, 266 and
257 from the 2014/2015 seasons through the
2016/2017 school year.

Local/State Tournament titles won include 1st
place for the girls New Jersey State Pepsi in 2017,
and 1st place in a Junior Bowlers Tour Scratch tour-
nament. She also placed in the top 10 for the 2017
Monmouth County Youth Masters Tourney.
Throughout her high school career, Sarah has
always challenged herself, having taken 11 Honors
Classes and 2 AP Classes. She earned the
Distinguished Varsity Scholar Award and High Honor
Roll for high academic achievement every year since
her Freshman year. Sarah graduated from Cedar
Creek High School with a cumulative GPA of 99.32
(on a 100 scale) and ranked 9th in her graduating
class. She will be attending Long Island University-
Brooklyn in the Fall where she was accepted into the
6 year Pharmacy Professional program and will also
be a part of the womans bowling program.
Aimee Sherman
Aimee Sherman attended Jackson Memorial High
School, and was on the varsity bowling team all four
years, finishing her senior year with a 215 average.
Aimees most defining bowling achievements in
2016/2017 were 1st Team All-Shore and 1st Team
All-State.
She was also the first girl ever to shoot a perfect 300
game during the girls state tournament as well.
Aimee was awarded Girls Bowler of the Year by
NJ.com and had the 1st highest average in the state.
She is a vital member of the Lynx Pride Organization
that is dedicated to mentoring young students on
important life skills such as sportsmanship, conflict
resolution and positive lifestyle choices highlighting
drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention.
Aimees highest series were all in the 700s having
bowled 764, 767, and 784 from the 2014/2015
through 2016/2017 bowling seasons respectively.
Her highest games were 299 in 2014/2015 and
2015/2016 and three 300s during the 2016/2017
school year.
Local/State Tournament titles won include 1st place
for the girls NJSIAA Individual State Tournament in
2017, Ocean County UBSCYA Junior Masters
Champion in 2015/2016 and 1st place in the South
Jersey Sectionals in 2014/2015. Aimee also placed
2nd at the Shore Conference Individuals and 3rd at the
South Jersey Sectionals in 2016/2017.
Most recently, she was selected as a part of the
Dexter USBC All-American team where only 5 girls
and 5 boys in the country get chosen.
Aimee consistently achieved either Honor Roll or
High Honor Roll throughout her high school career.
She graduated from Jackson Memorial with a 3.80
GPA having taken 13 honors classes and 2 AP classes.
Aimees strong work ethic has allowed her the
opportunity to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University
in the fall where she plans to major in Biology and
will also be continuing her bowling as a part of the
womans bowling program.

Executive Director of the United States Bowling
Congress (USBC). The agreement extends
Murphys tenure as Executive Director into 2020.
Murphy was first named Executive Director in
June of 2014.
Reporting to the USBC Board of Directors, the
Executive Director serves as an officer of the cor-
poration and has overall operational responsibility
for staff, programs, finance, and execution of the
strategic plan.
This last three years, really the last seven, went
by fast, and its been incredibly rewarding work-
ing alongside our staff here at USBC and IBC
Youth, Murphy said. Its been an honor and a
privilege. Im looking forward to working even
closer with our board, our association leaders, the
members, as well as all our certified centers over
the next three years, building a better USBC we
can all be proud of and a brighter future for our
sport.
