1. Share about a Tech activity, achievement, or honor you are most proud of - and why.
More than being proud, I am humbled. I came to Texas Tech primarily for the activity of studying. Thus far, I
have achieved it by doing exceptionally well in my scholastic endeavors. Coincidentally, I have been honored for
it also. Its like a 3-for-1 deal. At this point, I have earned 69 credit hours towards my BS in Biochemistry with
Honors degree. Majoring in Biochemistry was not the easiest path I could have taken to achieve my goal to secure
admission in medical school. I had to take some difficult lab-sciences classes along the way in Biology,
Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math. Despite the difficult route taken with which I did not
shy away, I have been able to achieve and maintain a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA and secured admission to the
medical school at TTUHSC. Due to my perfect grades, I have been placed in the Presidents Honors List in every
semester I have been a Red Raider. I am humbled by this achievement and honor.
2. Why are you interested in becoming a Chancellors Ambassador?
I am interested in being a Chancellors Ambassador because I am a natural born leader, a great communicator, I
possess a sharp intellect, hard-working genes, and eagerness to spread the good news of Texas Tech.
Additionally, I have a unique personal story to share with anyone who is even semi-interested in Tech. Almost
four months shy of nine years; I came to the USA as a first generation immigrant. I was born in India and grew up
in Kuwait. When I was nine and 10 years old (2004-05), I used to watch US Army nurses and doctors take care of
the wounded soldiers coming from Iraq War to Kuwait for treatment. My mother was an ICU nurse in Kuwait in
the same hospital which doubled as a US Army Hospital. I would ask my mother: How can I become like those
American nurses and doctors who are so competent and skilled? My mother would tell me that I have to study
hard and go to America to be like them. Long story short, my mother and I immigrated to USA in May 2006.
Today she is a practicing Nurse Practitioner and is also on her way to obtain a second post-masters NP Board
certification from TTUHSC; and I am on my way to become a physician, also courtesy of TTUHSC. I am a true
believer in the motto from here, its possible since I can foresee up-close the probability of realizing my
educational and career dreams.
You have to have a good imagination to put yourselves in my shoes to understand both the gratitude and the
excitement I have for Tech and the State of Texas, both of which has given me more than what my little brain
could have ever imagined those nine or 10 years ago. In Fall of 2014, I taught classes as SI Leader in Chemistry,
sometime with 200+ students and was one of only a dozen Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Biology. I was
recognized as an Outstanding 1st Year Chemistry Student and presented with the Chemical Rubber Company
Award at the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department Recognition Banquet in April 2014. I am currently an
Honors College Undergraduate Research Scholar studying aging and neurodegenerative diseases such as
Alzheimer, Parkinson, and Huntington, in a model nematode called Caenorhabditis elegans. I have been elected
to leadership positions in student organizations such as SASA and MAPS. Due to my academic achievements, I
was invited to membership in several scholastic honor societies: Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma, The
National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Gamma Beta Phi, The Golden Key International Honor Society, and Eta
Omicron Nu (HON). As my way of giving back to the Lubbock Community, I volunteered about 120 hours of my
personal unpaid time at the Inpatient Pharmacy in University Medical Center during 2013-14 as a licensed and
certified Pharmacy Tech.
3. Describe one of the best days you have experienced as a Texas Tech student.
As mentioned above, from a young age I have aspired to be nothing else other than a physician. To my
knowledge, TTU is the only university in Texas that offers such diverse professional programs all in one campus
as medicine to law, pharmacy to engineering, besides the common disciplines. Thats the reason I chose Tech but
more importantly, Texas Tech chose me as one of only nine students per year to grant me admission in the
Undergraduate to Medical School Initiative (UMSI) dual BS-MD degree program. That was my best day in Texas
Tech, to be exact Friday November 7, 2014, when I learned that I have been accepted to the TTUHSC-School of
Medicine Entering Class of 2017. That guarantees me to be a student in two components of the Texas Tech
University System, and therefore, a unique opportunity to be a Chancellors Ambassador and representative of the
System. That day, I took a huge step toward my career goal to be a surgeon and serve the people of the Great
State of Texas who have done so much for me in so short a time. I will never forget to give back to both Tech and
Texas. Thats why I want to be a Chancellors Ambassador.
