Corporate Headquarters

Arne Sorenson 10400 Fernwood Road

President and Chief Executive Officer Bethesda, MD 20817

August 21, 2017

Dear Bethesda Resident,

My name is Arne Sorenson and I am the president and CEO of Marriott International. On behalf
of the more than 3,500 associates who work at our headquarters, I am excited to tell you more
about our plans for a new corporate headquarters and a new 238-room flagship Marriott Hotel in
downtown Bethesda, expected to open in mid-2022. Both buildings will be located just two blocks
north of Metro, between Woodmont and Wisconsin avenues at Norfolk Avenue.

Why did we decide to move Marriotts headquarters to downtown Bethesda? First, we are excited
to join a vigorous and diverse community. We know that Bethesdas urban setting and all it has
to offer, including retail shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and more will be a huge
draw for our associates. We also love the idea of being within walking distance of many public
transportation options, especially Metro. And we are proud to be staying in Montgomery County
a community we have called home for more than 60 years.

Downtown Bethesda is a vital economic hub with a bright future, guided by Montgomery County
officials and a dynamic business and residential community. I am counting on our presence and
our associates to add to that positive vitality, in ways both great and small.

As we begin our headquarters development process, I want to personally let you know that we
are committed to being a good neighbor and an active participant in the vibrant Bethesda
community. We intend to be a responsive partner to government officials, community and
business leaders, and to you, throughout this process.

As your new downtown Bethesda neighbor, here are a few of the things you can expect to see
from us, with many more to come:

Volunteering as part of our companys Spirit to Serve Our Communities initiative (which, in
May, included a Bethesda-based team supporting The Childrens Inn at NIH, Bethesda
Cares, and The National Centers for Children and Families);
Public welcome tours of the completed, new headquarters;
New dining, meeting, and function spaces in the new 238-room flagship Marriott Hotel; and,
An attractive, landscaped plaza with benches and green space as part of our campus,
serving as a convenient pedestrian connection between Woodmont and Wisconsin avenues.

Our new headquarters is being designed to be an efficient and sustainable green building, both
in the way it will be built as well as the way we will operate on a day-to-day basis. We intend to
achieve a high level of certification in the U.S. Green Building Councils (USGBC) LEED (Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design) program. And we will bring with us a strong corporate
culture that values diversity, opportunity, and inclusion.

You can learn more about this exciting project from our website www.MHQBethesda.com as well
as share your thoughts and questions. You can also sign up for email updates to get the latest
information. Although we plan to move into our new headquarters in 2022, there is a lot to do
between now and then. We look forward to keeping you informed throughout this process.

As a long-time Montgomery County resident and huge Bethesda fan, I am excited that Marriott
International will become part of the fabric of this dynamic community. The journey from our
current suburban office park location to downtown Bethesda is not long measured in miles, but
it will be game changing for our company and our people.
