ABC Gas Company limited, in the nine years since its inception the company has

moved its operations to many cities. The company was taken over by the
multinational company, and the new management came into the organization to
play the role. This company is run by the corporate that has its presence in textile,
consultancy and financial services. The company even diversified into LPG parallel
marketing business.

The business groups and the service groups are confronted in planning of strategic
business plans for the company. The hierarchy in this company is flat. The HR
functions in this organization are decentralized. If I would be head of the HR
department I would have centralized all the HR activities and the functions in the
organization. I have noted in this case that there is a corporate HR which is
responsible for framing the company HR policies and held responsible for its
implementation. The HR in the location level is responsible for time keeping, salary
and wage administration. The company has to centralize all these activities under
the main corporate HR functions and has to look after the records of these
employees at the location levels too. This is recommended because then the
employees who are working in the location levels will be forced to follow the rules
and the policies that are being implemented by the company. I have also noted that
there is no one who is looking after the daily works performed by the employees
every day. So a special HR manager has to be appointed to look after the daily
works and should report to the corporate office every day.

If these are being done, the company employees will work more effectively and
hence the cost will come down. The training and development is been given to the
employees for adopting the new technology since its inception. The HR
interventions are needed, so being a head of HR I will conduct regular test for the
employees who are undergoing training and will also conduct reward programs so
that the employees perform the best.

The company is not able to expand to other territories because of non availability of
the gas. The company in the future will face lots of problems to stay in the market
as there is going to be more competition in the coming future. So the company in
the future will tend to reduce the cost. So as an HR head of the company I would
make sure that the employees in the organization know the market trend and will
ask the employees to work harder, increase the productivity and reduce the
additional costs, so that we can retain all the all employees even in the future.

The company has to diversify into other various sectors to survive in the market. If
the company only deals with the existing product and services it would be difficult.
Now this company is only dealing with natural gas and LPG. But now it has to move
on to some other products which is related to it or may be a complete different
segment too. The core business can remain the same, but still it can get into
various industries. For an example hybrid cars are going are launched, for those
vehicles they can start producing its gasoline. The company can also have joint
ventures with other oil and natural gas companies and produce an innovative
product in the same industry.
