COMPOSTELA VALLEY

AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES (Rubber)

According to the data of ComVal
Provincial Development and Physical
Framework Plan (PDPFP), the
agricultural land encompasses a large
portion of the provinces total land area
(1,406.91 Sq. Km.), giving way to a
diverse array of agricultural production
with rubber as the leading product
exported by the province which

growth. Region XI is one of the top five
producers of the Philippines with the province ranking first on rubber production with a total of
10,895.33 metric tons for 2012 in the whole region in comparison to the rubber production of
Davao del Sur and Davao City, both exporting less than 5000 according to the survey done by the
Department of Agriculture in 2012.
Because of the broad production of different agricultural crops, it gave way to a lot of job
opportunities for the people of Compostela Valley, promising a sustainable growth of the revenue
not only for the government but also for the people.

DAVAO DEL SUR
CACAO

Davao Region was hailed as the number

one producer of cacao in the Philippines
based on the study done by the
Department of Agriculture, producing
72% of cacao in Mindanao. Sta. Maria,
a municipality of Davao del Sur has the
largest area planted with cacao followed
by Malita and Don Marcelino. The

reason why is because of the rich land
resources the province has, making it suitable for cacao to grow and multiply in numbers.
Although the demand for the chocolate goodness is high, there has still been a decrease in the
number of cacao production because of the high production cost which enticed farmers to switch to
more high paying crops. Because of this, cacao import in the Philippines is greater than the amount
we export as told by the PROVINCIAL COMMODITY INVESTMENT PLAN of Davao del Sur.
