ELT NEWS
Centro Boliviano Americano Cochabamba organized their annual Citywide Seminar for English
Teachers last July 28-30. Over 150 English teachers from the ELT community in Cochabamba and
visitors from La Paz, Sucre, and other cities participated in this event. National and International
speakers presented on topics related to Building Student Engagement in Language Learning.

AMERICAN ENGLISH WEBINAR SERIES 7 INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE


The American English Webinars is a series of 6 online seminars covering a variety of topics and are intended for teachers of
English around the world.
The AE Webinar Series 6 ended satisfactorily with 480 participants from 21 different educational institutions from La Paz,
Oruro, Potos, Uyuni, Cochabamba, Cobija, Santa Cruz, Camiri, Sucre, Tarija, and Bermejo, who will be receiving their
certificates in the coming weeks.
The AE Webinar Series 7 will take place from September 6th through November 15, 2017. Each 60-minute webinar is held
every other Wednesday at 8:00am or 1:00pm excepts the last session, 9:00am or 2:00pm.
Please note! You must register a team of teachers to participate in this webinar series, No individual registration is
accepted. In order to register please send an email to FortunG@state.gov before Friday August 28th.

Activate E Teacher Alumni Training

Sponsored by the Regional English Language Office and the US Embassy in Bolivia,
Alumni of the E Teacher Program and other Online Training Programs for English
Teachers will meet in Tarija from August 31st to September 2nd for a training on
Critical Thinking. The event will end on Saturday September 2nd with the 2nd
Convention for English Teachers opened to the general ELT community. The event
will take place at CBA Tarija.

ELT Upgrade

The ELT Upgrade is a training program oriented to Pre Service Language Schools. Around 30
University professors will be meeting in Santa Cruz and will be trained on the development of
Critical Thinking in their daily teaching practice. Sponsored by the Regional English Language
Office and the US Embassy in BoliviaThe event will be conducted by an English Language
Specialist in Coordination with the School of Modern Languages and Hispanic Philology of the
Gabriel Ren Moreno University from September 6th to 8th, 2017.

Massive Open Online Courses for English Language Learners

The U.S. Department of State, in partnership with FHI 360 and the University of Pennsylvania is producing five new Massive
Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for English language learners overseas. The MOOCs have been available on Coursera.org
starting in May 2016.
These MOOCs area Designed for learners at the pre-intermediate or intermediate level, the MOOCs will help them improve
their English skills in five major content areas organized in a set of two initial instructor-guided sessions for each MOOC in 2016
and 2017, after which they will remain accessible for on-demand use. All course materials are available to download.
ALL THESE MOOCs are certified and are completely free of charge if you organize a MOOC Camp. A MOOC Camp is a series of
facilitated discussions around Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open courseware, and other free online courses.
