WEEK OF AUGUST 28, 2017

I am pleased to announce that starting next week, we will begin
selecting a Student of the Week every week. Their photo will be posted on my face-
book page and in the hallway across from the teachers lounge. If you have not
signed the photo release, your child can be selected, but their photo will not be post-

MATH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students have begun creating
their math reference notebooks.
This week we will begin working on place
value. Students will recognize odd and even
numbers and determine the value of a number
by its place value position. Please continue to
practice their basic addition and subtraction
facts with them. They will need to have a
good grasp of these facts in order to do well in
adding and subtracting greater numbers and
for regrouping. Tutoring for math is on Mon-
days from 3:30-4:30 . Title I tutoring will also
be available soon.
This week in Language, we
will begin using our interactive
notebooks to help with assign-
ments about nouns to include
common, proper, plural, and singular nouns. In
spelling, students will be spelling words with the
sounds of ou and oi. The words and sentences can be
found in the assignment and project section of the
weebly page. In reading, we have begun our themat-
ic unit on stories we hand down. We will look a
trickster tales. Students will find the trickster, the
victim, the problem and solution. Be thinking of a
story that has been handed down in your family for a
future assignment. Tutoring for reading is on Tues-
days from 3:30-4:30. Title I tutoring will be availa-
ble soon as well.

HANDWRITING
Students will begin practicing the overcurve and undercurve in
cursive handwriting and begin writing specific letters.
 SCIENCE-This week students will review Lesson 5 (identify the causes of
the Earths seasons) and begin Lesson 6 (describing and showing the
Moons movement around Earth and describing the characteristics of
the Moon) .
RELIGION-This week students will recall Jesuss death and resurrection
and complete Chapter 2. This weeks Word of the Week is prophet-a
person seen as an inspired teacher and proclaimer of the will of God.
This Weeks Good News comes from Matthew 16:13-20.
SOCIAL STUDIES-Students will use data to compare rainfall in three
different communities and be able to relate the history of a community.

Please be sure to download the forms regarding the handbook. If you cannot print them out, please let me
know so that I can send home a copy. Be sure to send in the photo release signed so that your childs photo
can be posted as Student of the Week!
MUSIC PROGRAM
Don't forget to sign up your children for our after school music programs! If interested, please regis-
ter with Mr. Salcido. The piano sessions are closed, but room is still available in classes for other in-

may drop off your registration form in Mr. Salcidos Room

Virtus Training
ALL parents must attend Virtus training. New parents, training sessions will be held on August 29 @ 4:00
p.m. in the library. Attendees must register online and may the fee before being admitted to the class. Re-
turning parents must take the recertification training online. An e-mail should be sent to you with a link to
this training video.

August 30-Home and School Meeting @ 7:40 a.m. Students whose parents attend will receive a free dress
pass for Friday, September 1.
Diocesan Schools Mass at St. Raphael @ 9:00 a.m. Only Student Council and NJHS students will
attend
August 31-Mass prepared by 8B; Students are required to wear Mass attire
September 1-Spirit Dress and early dismissal @ 1:00 p.m. Students may wear spirit dress as outlined in the
school handbook (jeans, spirit shirt-tucked in, belt, uniform socks and shoes). Jeans should not have holes or
rips.
