Japan. They we very
impressed with our

thoroughly enjoyed
seeing New Zealand
classes in action.

Photo Day
As our school
photographer will be
setting up in the hall for
photos, Family Time will
be held in Whaea Rosies
class, Room 3.

wa and Kia Ora.
Whanau Group
Due to Whaea Ancey leaving, and a few changes with the
staff we have decided not to run the Whanau group meet-
ings this term. We hope to reintroduce this in Term 4 when
the new principal, Janet, begins. Our apologies for not
communicating this sooner.
Minute Taker
The Board of Trustees is looking for someone who is able to
undertake the role of minute taker for Board meetings. This requires attending
all Board meetings which take place almost monthly, except for school holidays,
taking the minutes, typing them up and distributing them to the Chairperson and
Board members. It is a paid position, that requires someone who is highly
confidential and able to take accurate detailed minutes. If you are interested or
would like to know more information please leave your contact details at the
office and someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
BNZ Closed for Good
On Wednesday 23 August Grant and Joe from the BNZ volunteered at school
for the day. They worked in the old garden behind the adventure playground,
removing the rocks around the border and the old wooden garden beds. There
is still more work to be done to return this area to flat ground that the children
can play on, but without their hard work and effort it wouldnt have even been
started. Id just like to acknowledge the work of Grant and Joe, and the
generousity of the BNZ, for providing volunteer services to the community. If
anyone else is keen to give up some time to work in this area, please come and
see us in the office.
Swimming Lessons
I have to say that the improvement in the childrens swimming confidence and
skills over the last two weeks has been amazing. After a few lessons they are
floating comfortably, using the correct stroke techniques and just much more
confident in the water than at the start. We realise that the winter term is not
the best to swim, and have heard parents concerns about children getting cold
and sick. We dont get a choice of when to swim, it is up to the pool to allocate
swimming lesson times. Ideally it would be best to swim just before the end of
the year, or early in the new year, but these are always the busiest times for the
pool so we miss out. With New Zealands shocking drowning statistics, every
opportunity for children to develop water confidence and swimming skills is
important. Thank you to those parents who supported and encouraged their
children at the pool, or who managed to remember the daily task of getting togs
and towels cleaned and returned to childrens bags.
Concerns at school
If you have concerns about your children at school, with either learning or
behaviour, or other areas, please discuss these with the classroom teacher, or if
you feel unable to do that, come and make a time to see me. Often areas of
concern can be quickly sorted out and with good open communication and
partnership we can ensure that together we meet the needs of our students.
Our aim is to have happy students, who are enjoying learning and socialising at
school.
