Dear Parents/Guardians and Dual Credit Students:

As you know, dual credit courses will look a little bit different for the 2017-2018 school year and
beyond. These changes could cause confusion, and we want parents and students to be as
informed as possible.

In the spring, you were informed that for the 2017-2018 school year, we will be going through
Missouri StateWest Plains for dual credit. Second, due to the law passed by the Department
of Higher Education, stating that dual credit instructors must obtain a Masters degree in their
content area to continue to teach dual credit, we will be moving to many online classes for this
school year.

As stated in the handbook, eligible dual credit students may receive up to $700 payment of dual
credit courses. Students taking a class for dual credit must receive a C or above in the class for
the grade to transfer to college. If a student receives a D or F in a dual credit class for which
the district provided payment, the student must reimburse the district for the class and will not be
eligible for further district paid dual credit courses until the tuition is repaid.

If you received a bill from Missouri StateWest Plains for those fall courses that your student
enrolled in, please hold onto the bill and do nothing at this time. That bill will be paid shortly.

Should your dual credit student exceed the school-paid $700, you will need to pay Missouri State
West Plains the amount beyond $700. Please turn a check into the school by Friday, January
12th, 2018.

Below is the list of courses that will be offered for dual credit, starting in the fall:
Psychology (online, fall semester only, through Missouri StateWest Plains)
American Government (seated, fall semester only, through Missouri StateWest Plains)
Advanced Animal Science (seated, full year, through Missouri StateWest Plains)
If your student enrolled in any of the above courses, they will meet with our Missouri State
West Plains representative, Michael Orf, on Friday, August 18th, about 1:15. He will be
going over the student handbook and setting up online accounts with students.

If you would like to join us for this presentation, you are more than welcome to attend. It
could be highly beneficial for you to hear the information alongside your student, since this
is quite a change. However, it is not mandatory that you attend.

Biology II (online, spring semester only, through Missouri StateWest Plains)
College Algebra (online, spring semester only, through Missouri StateWest Plains)
Child Development 2 (seated, spring semester only, through Missouri StateWest
Plains)
Fundamentals of Chemistry (online, spring semester only, through Missouri StateWest
Plains)
English 4 (online, spring semester only, through OTC)

We will enroll in Biology II, College Algebra, Child Development, Chemistry, and English 4
(spring semester dual credit classes) sometime in November. The dual credit portion of the class
will start in the springif your student is taking this course, he or she is already enrolled in the
class for high school credit, for the fall semester.
