Earthy, cozy and traditional would best describe the mood of this
dwelling. When you first enter the space you are walking into a living
room that has a spectacular view of the ever busy main street that is
found below. The analogous color theme is present with different
variations of red, yellow and orange that can be found from the carpets
on the floor to the drapes. Throughout the space you will find various
display cases built into the walls to display your most treasured
valuables. When you walk into the kitchen you are met with a ceiling
high wine closet with its own locking door. Golden oak hardwood is
the floor of choice in the main areas of this space while soft plush
carpet is found in the bedrooms upstairs. Also, upstairs you will find a
contemporary office room that comes with a personal bookshelf and a
chaise longue. This dwelling is perfect for the socializer, entrepreneur
and collector.

Codes in residential design are the very thing that paves the path for a successful project without
possible repercussions in the end. The codes set forth a standardized way of ensuring a building is built
in a way that it promotes the health, safety and welfare of the public. Without having codes to follow each
building would be built with only the aesthetic function in mind and not the electrical, fire safety, energy
conservation and various other factors that without codes to follow could harm people and the
environment.
If youre a designer and you know about codes when you talk with your clients you can tell them
right away if what they are hoping to include in a project will or will not violate a code. No designer is
expected to memorize every code but as long as you know where to look, that is what will set you apart
from other designers. If you know about the codes you can also tell right away before you start working
on a new project if the codes were followed in the past. Just because they werent followed in the past
and no one said anything doesnt mean you cant bring it up a make the change now. Be the example for
other designers that may follow in your footsteps.

Solution Justification
I came up with the concept for my project by reviewing the client and the floor plans that we
were given in the beginning of the course. My design goals were to make the most out of the
space I chose and to incorporate all of the clients wants and needs when choosing the
furniture, fabrics, lighting, finishes and accessory selections. Being that my client was from
Brazil I chose a lot of items to display in the house that display Brazil pride. I also took the
clients love for soccer and wine and incorporated those aspects into the space as well. Anytime
you redo or revise any schematic plans or analyze them for that matter it may spark other
design ideas that you may like to incorporate in a given space. In this profession it is all about
creativity, imagination and being willing to try something different.
Reflection
First off, this class was the most difficult thus far, but the most informational. I learned so
much in the past 5 weeks that I hope I am able to retain it all. I am glad this course delved into
CAD. I had not touched CAD since I took the class quite sometime ago. It was just a reminder
to me that in this field, and this early in my career you have to keep practicing and practicing. I
was also glad we dealt more the specification sheets. I cant remember what class I took in the
past that we dealt with the specification sheets but we completed a lot this class which was
really good practice. I am also glad we each had a client to work with for the class project. It
made it more realistic, like we were actually working with a client. This will prove to be
beneficial when I intern at a design firm, hopefully sometime in the near future.
