The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary
professional body that encompasses 15 engineering
disciplines and gives engineers a global platform to share professional
Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata
- 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades.
In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the
history of modern-day engineering.
In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only
professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest

prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions
among professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It

IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in different Engineering

Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Govt. of India. Every year as many as 90000 candidates

KLE Dr MSSCET INSTITUTION PROFILE
KLE Dr M.S.Sheshgiri College of Engineering and Technology, Belagavi
belongs to KLE society, a society which has a legacy of 100 years in the
field of education and is one of the largest educational societies in
Asia.Established in the year 1979, KLE Dr MSSCET is a self-financing,
Non-Autonomous and an ISO 9001:2015 certified institution approved by
All India council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and
permanently affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU),
Belagavi. The department of Civil Engineering is accredited by National
Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. The institution presently offers
7 Under Graduate and 5 Post Graduate (M.Tech) programs in various
disciplines of engineering including M. C. A. and M. B. A. for graduates
of various disciplines. With 10 departments recognized by VTU as
research centers and state of art facilities for doing quality research.
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT PROFILE The
Department of civil engineering is an NBA Accredited program,
established in the year 1979 has an intake of 120 students in Under
Graduate program, we also offer two post graduate programs in Structural
and Environmental Engineering. The department is also recognized by
VTU as research center in the field of civil engineering. The department
has well qualified faculty in all streams of Civil Engineering. The
department is actively involved in consultancy services in survey,
structural design, Pavement Design, Structural and functional evaluation of
pavements, Design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, material
testing.
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR
In general, pavements perform well for 3/4th of the life cycle, then deteriorate
rapidly for the remainder of the life cycle. The duration for which a
pavement remains above the "good" condition level depends on the quality
and timing of maintenance. The condition of the pavements may range from
those that are in poor condition and require significant maintenance to those
which are in good condition and need only preventive maintenance. Various
maintenance or repair techniques can be applied to extend their service life
of pavements. Some pavement distresses are more severe than others. For
example, "Alligator" cracking is more severe than surface weathering and
surface cracks, since it is caused by traffic loads and indicates structural
failure of the asphalt. Pavement distress and its extent has to be accurately
evaluated so as to adopt suitable remedial measures. Systematic monitoring
of pavement performance including structural and functional evaluation by
using modern devices helps in achieving long lasting and better performing
pavements an efficient management within the budget. For a pavement
professional the main objective of evaluating and repairing pavements is to
extend the pavement performance to a maximum extent. Poor design, low
grade materials and faulty construction leads to failure of pavements to
pavements, where as a good design and timely maintenance results in long
lasting pavements.
The main objective of this two day seminar is to educate participants
about advanced methods of pavement evaluation and maintenance.
