General Information
The modern rain water outlet and roof drain is designed to
drain off rain water in the most effective manner possible
while maintaining an aesthetic appeal because in many
instances it is placed in full view of the public.
Roof drainage systems are designed to receive rainwater
from the roof by means of a roof drain and transport water by
means of piping to the street level or storm sewer. The storm
drainage system should be sized according to the maximum
rainfall for a given area.
Galvin Engineering rain water outlets and roof outlets are
designed for installation at the head of rainwater drain piping
systems in flat roofs and floors. The domed or flat grates are
easily removed if the line requires clearing by unscrewing two
stainless steel bolts. The roof outlet bodies are also designed

for screwed or slip-in connections to either galvanised, cast-
iron, copper, HDPE or PVC pipes. Adaptors for various types
of pipes are also available.
Our roof outlets are designed for the easy installation of
waterproofing membrane systems. The use of a clamp ring
type roof outlet ensures positive fixing of the outlet to the
membrane, and eliminates the possibility of leakage caused
by membrane delamination at the vulnerable point.
Galvin Engineering have incorporated in its roof drain range
the features to fulfil the requirements of the engineer and the
design needs of the architect. These features include:

There is a wide difference of opinion among plumbing
designers concerning the sizing and placement of roof drains
in different geographical areas. Some areas have local codes
governing roof drain sizing.
Technical Information
1. Flow Capacity (Litres/Sec)
For Unrestricted Roof Outlet Grates
Flow capacity figures were determined during tests conducted
by the Water Corporation of Western Australia. They are based
on the roof outlet grate only, draining to atmosphere, with no
restrictions. The actual flow capacity may be reduced due to
numerous possible restrictions, such as roof outlet body size,
drain pipe size, debris, etc.
2. Connection Details
The sizes of outlets correspond to the normal diameter of PVC,
HDPE, and cast iron, and the outside diameter of copper.
The large grating size is designed to give an escape area
considerably greater than the area of the bore of the downpipe.

3. Load Rating
The standard range of aluminium rain water outlet and roof
drains are rated for areas without vehicular traffic, such as
balconies, terraces and roof gardens.
For areas that have vehicular traffic, such as car parks, factories
and other commercial facilities, specify the multi-purpose heavy
duty rain water outlets.

Clamp Ring Type
The clamp ring type outlet is designed to hold a bituminous
membrane between the body and the clamp ring. When
removing the grate for cleaning purposes, the clamp ring
remains in position leaving the membrane undisturbed. This
assures a watertight seal at all times.

The puddle flange type outlet is primarily designed for concrete
floors where no membrane is fitted (e.g. Multistorey car parks,
balconies, etc).
Any water seepage around the outlet is trapped at the base of
