Foreword
In Yanbu Industrial College (YIC), we are building a community of creative problem
solvers. To achieve this goal, we are renewing our commitment to excellence through strategic
focus on technical education and effectively preparing students for the changing workforce
of tomorrow. YIC has a clear vision to provide outstanding talent and first class education.

For more than two decades, YIC has been ramping up student enrollment, faculty and facilities.
YIC strongly believes that students life at YIC must be linked to their life outside the College.
This principle marks a departure from the legacy of a traditional teaching which continues to
shape our system and responsible for the gap between the school, home and community. The
lab manuals and info sheets developed in-house by YIC faculty signify an attempt to narrow
down this gap.

The success of this effort depends on the commitment that Head of Academic Department(s)
and teachers take to encourage students to reflect on their own learning and to pursue
imaginative activities and questions. We must recognize that, within the given space, time and
freedom, students apply learned knowledge by engaging with the information passed on to
them. Inculcating creativity and initiative is possible if we receive and treat students as
participants in the learning environment.

These aims imply considerable changes in YIC teaching methods. The methods used for
teaching and assessment will also determine how effective this course study guide proves for
making students learning experience at YIC meaningful. Syllabus design addresses the
problem of curricular burden through restructuring and reorienting knowledge at different
stages. The course study guide attempts to enhance this endeavor by giving learning
opportunities through discussion in small groups and activities requiring hands-on experience.

A large part of our success comes from our highly caliber faculty who see the challenges as an
opportunity to develop a vibrant learning culture and prepare profession-ready graduates. YIC
appreciates the hard work done by Head of Academic Department, Curriculum Development
Department, and Curriculum Committee responsible for this course study guide. Several
members of faculty contributed to the development of this course study guide and we are
grateful to them for making this possible.

As Managing Director, I am extremely proud of the community of learners dedicated to take on


challenges, leaders, and thinkers who make up the YIC, a place where curiosity, compassion,
and intellect combine to create breakthroughs that help us live better lives. And I am honored to
be part of a team of people who are not just about making something happen, but making
something better. As an organization committed to systematic reform and continuous
improvement in quality of its product, YIC welcomes comments and suggestions which will
enable us to undertake further revision and refinement. Our strong alliance to industry through
technologies focused collaboration is to ensure relevancy in classrooms and teaching labs
material.
