the following course expectations with your child. It is yours to keep for future references. In addition, please help us serve you

Course Standards

1.0 ARTISTIC PERCEPTION


Processing, Analyzing, and Responding to Sensory Information Through the Language and Skills Unique to Theatre

Students observe their environment and respond, using the elements of theatre. They also observe formal and
informal works of theatre, film/video, and electronic media and respond, using the vocabulary of theatre.

2.0 CREATIVE EXPRESSION


Creating, Performing, and Participating in Theatre

Students apply processes and skills in acting, directing, designing, and script writing to create formal and informal
theatre, film/videos, and electronic media productions and to perform in them.

3.0 HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT


Understanding the Historical Contributions and Cultural Dimensions of Theatre

Students analyze the role and development of theatre, film/video, and electronic media in past and present cultures
throughout the world, noting diversity as it relates to theatre.

4.0 AESTHETIC VALUING


Responding to, Analyzing, and Critiquing Theatrical Experiences

Students critique and derive meaning from works of theatre, film/video, electronic media, and theatrical artists on the
basis of aesthetic qualities.

5.0 CONNECTIONS, RELATIONSHIPS, APPLICATIONS


Connecting and Applying What Is Learned in Theatre, Film/Video, and Electronic Media to Other Art Forms and
Subject Areas and to Careers

Students apply what they learn in theatre, film/video, and electronic media across subject areas. They develop
competencies and creative skills in problem solving, communication, and time management that contribute to
lifelong learning and career skills. They also learn about careers in and related to theatre.

Class Expectations:
To establish a positive and successful learning environment,
the following are general expectations from each student:

1. Be respectful.
2. Be responsible.
3. Be safe.
4. Collaborate.
5. Participate.

Classroom Procedures:

1. Ask three, before you ask us.


2. Turn in work with correct title and heading, in the appropriate tray. Work turned in with no name
will not receive credit.
3. With an excused absence, you have as many days as your absence to turn in make-up work, without
penalty or reduced points. Work turned in late without valid or approved reason will receive
only 50% of the maximum points allotted to the assignment.
4. Always clean up before leaving the classroom; i.e., straighten up desks, pick up trash, etc. Please
DO NOT move the desks around unless given permission.
5. Electronic devices brought to class are NOT my responsibility. Please take care of your own things.
Unless directed otherwise, devices should be turned off, zipped inside backpacks throughout
the duration of class.

Consequences for Behavioral Concerns:

1st Offense: Verbal warning


2nd Offense: 1-2 minute teacher-student Talk after-class. (If you end up being late to your
next class, that is your own responsibility. The instructors will not be held liable
for the consequences of your actions.)
3rd Offense: Parent conference (via phone, e-mail, or meeting)
4th Offense: Detention during lunch
5th Offense: Student conference with Counselor or AP

Class Materials:
(Please bring to class everyday)

1. At least 3 Pensdifferent colors: BLACK and RED are a must! (Always write assignments in black ink!)
2. Highlighters or colored pencils
3. Composition notebook(s)solely for this class.
(You might need more than one.)
4. 1 Binder with 3 dividers: handouts/articles, graded work, and scripts
5. Pencil and eraser
6. A set of loose, lined paper

Grading:

Students will be graded on a point-system, with the following equivalent percentage breakdown:

90-92% = A- 92-97% = A 98-100% = A+


80-82% = B- 83-87% = B 88-89% = B+
70-72% = C- 73-77% = C 78-79% = C+
60-62% = D- 63-67% = D 68-69% = D+
F = 50 %
Example:
Assignment Title: Total Points Earned: Out of: Percentage
Monologue Performance 27 30 90% = A-

Some writing assignments, such as Theater Reviews or short writing responses will be given a direct letter grade,
with the following percentage equivalents. In the grade book, each percentage will be translated into the equivalent
points out of the total assignment points.

A+ = 100% B+ = 89% C+ = 79% D+ = 69% F = 50%


A = 95 % B = 85 % C = 75% D = 65%
A- = 90 % B- = 80 % C- = 70% D- = 60%

For example
If you receive a B on your Theatre Review # 1, an assignment that is worth a total of 30 points in
my grade book, your inputted grade will be 25.5 points for that assignment.

Some assignments will be given a + , , or - (a check mark) grade with the following equivalents:

+ = A (10pts in the grade book)


= B- (8 pts in the grade book)
- = C- (7 pts in the grade book)

Other important information:


Notebooks and binders will be randomly checked for grade, so keep them organized.
Some assignments will be worth more points than others.

General Grading Rubrics


Various grading rubrics will be used for various tasks assigned in class. There will be a rubric for each of the following
categories: Performance or Acting Rubric; Scene Presentation Rubric; Critical Evaluation/Research Writing Rubric; and
Professionalism Rubric.

Miscellaneous Information:

BATHROOM/HALL Passes: Students will need to sign out/in on the HALL PASS LOG by the door.
Make sure you go to the restroom during breaks. 10/10 Rule Please use the school passes.
Office Hours: Our conference period is 4th. You may also email us your questions.
Plagiarism: School policy on plagiarism will be strictly enforced. Please refer to the school handbook
for more details.
