What is GDSS? Explain their features and components? Also explain their merits and demerits. 4. Case Study (Compulsory). (5x4) A Book House is known for offering books on various subjects in science and technology under one roof. The owner of the book house maintains inventory of Rs.20 Lakhs or more. Of late, it is observed that there are some slow moving titles. These titles have not moved since last year, which results in dead stock. To clear this dead stock, a reduction sale was organized. The revenue generated out of this sale was less than the list price. The inventory carrying also accounts as an interest cost for the last one year. The owner is interested to computerize the whole process to avoid such cases in the future. The existing monthly stock report provides a stock statement by titles. It gives status of opening balance, receipts, sales and balances. Answer the following questions. a. Evaluate the existing system. b. Explain the information needed to design a suitable MIS. c. Advice various output requirements so that the reports will be used efficiently and can be made actionable to control the business. Also suggest input technologies wherever necessary. d. Suggest new technologies to coordinate stocking, billing, accounting and decision making.
