The Transportation Penny Sales Tax

On November 2, 2010 Richland County voters will have the op-

portunity to vote yes or no for the Transportation Penny Sales County Administrator
Tax. If approved by voters, the transportation penny would be SC City and County

used to complete more than a billion dollars worth of major road, President
bike and pedestrian greenway projects, plus provide long-term
sustainable funding for our bus service and transportations ser-
vices for the community’s disabled. The Transportation Penny
would increase sales tax in Richland County to eight cents on all
retail sales with the funds going to improve roads, support the
bus system and increase bike/pedestrian greenways.

Richland County is now on the radio! The County’s new call in talk
show can be heard every Friday at 5pm on WGCV 620 am. The
show features an in-depth look at all things Richland County and
gives citizens a chance to make their voices heard. Each week,
Richland Radio highlights current affairs, community events and im-
portant topics; with interviews of top law makers, community lead-
ers and everyday citizens.

In case you missed a show, Richland Radio is also available by podcast at www.rcgov.us.

This week, Richland Radio will give important tips on how to keep your utility bills low, when tem-
peratures are rising and the show will also look into the upcoming Tax Free Holiday.

Richland County is also keeping citizens informed with its weekly public affairs show Richland
Revealed, airing every Sunday at 11:30am on CW47 Time Warner channel 13.

Richland County Talking Trash

In an effort to make household recycling more convenient and simpler for residents, the Richland
County Solid Waste Department has 5 recycling drop-off centers throughout the county.

Drop off sites are located at:


• Richland County Public Works, 400 Powell Road,
• Clemson’s Sandhill Research and Education Center, 900 Clemson Road
• Sonoco Recycling, 1132 Idlewilde Blvd
• Blythewood Community Center , 311 Blythewood Rd.
• Ballentine Work Camp, 1009 Bickley Rd on Bird Rd

Residents can recycle:


• Glass
• Cardboard
• Newspaper
• Junk mail
• Box board / Cereal Boxes
• Bottles/Plastic Containers (# 1-7)
• Steel & Aluminum cans
• Motor Oil

Richland County hopes the centers will encourage residents to recycle their household items,
thereby reducing landfill space and saving the county thousands of dollars each year.
