Presidents Message Get ready for an adventure & Salad Supper

As your presidents, Tina and I are entering our second year of
this biennium. Yet it is a new year for the state. Our new TSO
President, Dr. Jo Murphy has chosen the theme Bridging
yesterday and tomorrow, promoting the idea that as we stand
on the bridge we can look back at our path and our history and
also look forward to new ideas, activities and beginnings and
we can merge our past and our future and become stronger.
As I think about current news, Ive been made extremely
aware of the importance of bridges. When bridges become
impassable, isolated communities are formed and the
importance and need for a bridge becomes paramount. There
is a strong human need to move forward and to travel back
and forth across the bridge.
So what does that mean for Kappa Phi? I hope it means, that
we will cherish and honor our past, but also be aware of what
is important and needed for each new day and new year. Many
of our activities will stay the same, but some things are
already changing. We have planned a Saturday meeting in
October for our outing to the Holocaust Museum and hope
that many of our active teachers as well as retired teachers will
make plans now to part of that memorable time together. We
are also changing our scholarship program to be aimed at
Early Educators and this year we will focus on those at
Strickland. This month we focus on needs outside of our own
country. These activities can strengthen our chapter and draw
us closer together.

church is a few blocks down on your left. It 1
is next to Riverchase Elementary (CFB
school). The church is made of white
Austin stone and has a green roof.
Park in the back parking lot and enter through the back door.)
Salad Supper: Bring your favorite salad (meat, pasta, veggie, fruit
you know the routine) or dessert. Paper plates, cups and plastic
ware will be provided along with tea and water. Someone may want
to bring wine (it's ok!)
Program: Marilyn will take us on a fascinating photo journey to
Guatemala. She will show us how the people live in the mountains
isolated and remote - without running water, in very poor conditions
and with very little access to modern means of communication or
schooling.
We will learn about our Little Dress project and hopefully some of
you will be ready to get started making dresses!

We have a good chapter, one that is worthy to be shared with ATTENTION: I will need to know how many of you plan to visit the
Holocaust Museum. You may email me (btaylor39@att.net) to let
others. So keep giving names of prospective members to me know if you will be going. We have to purchase tickets ahead of
Sarah Eaton. And you can also just invite them yourself. the date, as no individual tickets are sold at the door.

This Treasurer's Report covers the time since the last
one which appeared in the May Newsletter. I have since
written a check for $500 to McKenzie Clowe for the 1

Grant-in-Aide and for $25 for our chapter's CCDCs due

for 17-18. These will be documented in the August
31st statement.

I am pleased to report that sixteen members have paid
their 17-18 dues. Dues are officially due to me September
by October 20th which gives me time to submit them by
the state due date. If you haven't paid your dues, you 12 Lee Nitcholas

Mckenzie Clowe -Plans to attend A&M and be a math teacher and drill team director. She graduated with a 99.04 GPA
Mary Rose Kidson is attending the University of Oklahoma, and plans to major in Music Education, and become a band
director. She graduated with a 97.4 GPA

Little Dress project for Guatemala*

To get started, we need donations of colorful, cotton dress fabric appropriate for young girls from size 3 to
size 14. We need sizes of fabric from yard to 1 yards depending on the size of the dress. 1

If you have any fabric to donate, please call Debbie Moss before the meeting and she can get some project
bags ready for us.

If you want to sew dresses, you will be provided with a pattern and instructions. You may want to purchase
your own material until donations of fabric start coming in. If you do not sew, you are welcome to help us 1
with monetary donations to help us buy fabric, elastic and seam binding.

I am putting out a request in the E News at our church requesting donations of fabric also. This will help as
we get further into the project. If you have any questions or donations, call Debbie at 972-978-2649 or email
debbiemoss67@gmail.com.

Strickland Updates
DeDe Lacy Re: Sept. Meeting
I will be at the CFB board meeting. I hope you
all enjoy dinner and keep
McLaughlin/Strickland in mind as you plan
your year. We have 9 new classroom teachers
K-5 this year. Add that to the 8-10 in the 1st 5
years. Lots of energy but mentors would be
great.
In order to continue our good work at Strickland, we need at
least a couple of volunteers. As you probably know, we
commit to doing clerical work on Tuesdays. You make your
own hours. It's usually copying, maybe cutting and
laminating. Easy, easy. The teachers are most grateful. Nancy
& I really like doing it, but we need some help. It is probably a
once a month commitment and you can always switch with
someone if necessary. I really hate to see us let this project go,
as we always feel appreciated and it's a good way to keep up
with knowing what is going on in our former life!

you would like to be a part of this DKG project!
