In an online dictionary it is easy to find the word you need even if you are not sure of the
spelling (improvise the spelling as you type the word into the search box, and you will get a
drop-down menu of words similar to what you have written; choose from the menu).
Explanations are written using words well-known to most intermediate learners of English, but if
the word is unfamiliar, click on it and a new window will open with the entry for that word (with
the explanation of its meaning or meanings).
There is the auditory component as well: click on the image of an ear, or a mouth, or a
loudspeaker, and you will hear the word pronounced. Some dictionaries have audio files with
both British and American pronunciations.
