Osama Aslam Ansari
I am applying for the position of the Chair of IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter. I am a second year MSc. student,
working in the Smart Grid and Renewable Energy Technology (SMART) Lab at the department. I took the initiative
to form the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at the University of Saskatchewan, and since its inception, I am serving
as the Interim Chair. I have a vast experience of working in different societies in various capacities. Notably, I have
served as President, and Vice-President of a student society in my undergraduate degree. Also, I have served as the
director of the marketing department of the universitys book club during my undergraduate degree. Besides, I also
served as a Resident Assistant (RA) at the University of Saskatchewan's residence. Using all my experience and
leadership skills, I hope to lead the USask IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter to become a vibrant chapter in the
department. I am highly motivated for this position, and I believe that I am the ideal candidate for the position.

I have volunteered as the Vice President Student Affairs of Engineering Grad Community Council for one year (term
is ending soon). I have prepared and organized different social events for EGCC by collaborating with departments
and students. I am a power system reliability grad student, I would love to participate and contribute to Power and
Energy Society and to help the team and people to accomplish the upcoming goals.

Alireza Zare
I'm a PhD student with more than 5 years of experience in graduate studies. I have so far attended several conferences
and events held by IEEE PES and, hence, I think I have enough experience for the position.

Candidates for General Secretary

Maisha Nasim
I am entering my third year of Electrical Engineering where Power and Energy is my focus. I consider myself to be a
person with great communication skills which also includes being able to handle social media with expertise. I have
worked as the Corporate Relations Director for IEEE Illumination in the 2016-2017 school year. I was elected as the
HVC Coordinator for 2017-2018 school year back in March' 17. Both of these roles have helped me develop my
leadership and communication skills. I believe the position of a General Secretary has a lot to offer, also I consider
myself to be a great fit for the position.

Alireza Zia
To begin with, I am wedded to the idea that IEEE is not merely a professional institution, but rather a large family.
Each officer plays a pivotal role at their positions, and there are no trivial tasks. At the time being, I am a Masters
Student of Electrical Power Engineering at U of S. I work as a member of SMART Lab (SMart grid And Renewable
energy Technology), under supervision of Prof. C.Y. Chung.
Related Experiences and Achievements:
The Chair of IEEE Sharif Student Branch (Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran) o The branch had been
dormant for about 9 years; I had genuinely decided to try my best to help the branch pick up the slack. We managed
to accomplish the final flourish: IEEE Sharif Student Branch won the 2016 Outstanding Student Branch Award of
IEEE Iran Section.
Appreciated for Active Involvement in IEEE Iran Sections Student Activities, 2016 (Tehran, Iran)
The Industrial Committee Manager of TPES 2015 (Technologies of Power Electronics Seminar, Sharif University
of Technology, Tehran, Iran) o I was chiefly in charge of raising funds and attracting financial support, as well as non-
financial industrial advocates for the seminar. I also possessed the responsibility of holding the seminar's discussion
panels, and its industrial fair.
I am well aware that running the position of the General Secretary of IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter will require
diligent work, and energetic and attentive application to tasks. Drawing on the cachet of my previous successful
experiences, I believe that I am well-capable of coping with my responsibilities at the position. I am absolutely
motivated to be a part of the team, to make this year one of the most thriving periods of PES Chapter.

Nima Safari
I am motivated to play a role as a treasurer in the not-for-profit IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter to ensure that all
the PES members can make the possible profit from their membership in this Chapter. My vision is to advise the
Chapter for the most economical strategies to employ the limited budget for ongoing events to lessen the financial
burden of students; meanwhile creating an event with the most benefits for the members.

Zeping Fan
I am very sensitive when coming to calculate numbers and manage finances, and I would like to make some significant
contributions to the IEEE society and our college of engineering, thus, I believe the treasurer is a suitable position for
me.
