Homework!

This year our homework will come back and forth DAILY in this binder. The
homework routine will be very similar from week to week, with no homework over the
weekends unless you choose to work on special, long-term projects. There are planner
pages that will be filled in daily by your student to keep you aware of the
assignments.

Each week the homework is:

Student-Choice Spelling

Each week your student will complete:


10, 5th grade level sentences, using at least one spelling word per sentence. (5 pts
TWO Student-Choice activities - one MUST be from the Written Choices section.
Activities that cannot be turned in, Kinesthetic Choices must be written in on the pre-test.
A signature by an adult is also required on the pre-test (yellow sheet).
5 pts extra credit possible when someone administers a practice (use back of pre-test) :)

Written Choices
1. Write your spelling words in ABC order.
2. Write a poem using at least 8 spelling words, beginning with missed words.
3. Use graph paper or the website www.puzzlemaker.com to create a word search using all of your
spelling words.
4. Create a cartoon strip using at least 8 spelling words, beginning with missed words.
5. Write your spelling words 3 times each (at least one time in cursive).
6. Write each spelling word you missed on the pretest 10 times each.
7. Divide each spelling word into syllables.
8. Define 10 spelling words, and include parts of speech.
9. Type your spelling list on a computer, with each word typed in a different font. Print it out.
10. Create a game that can be used to practice your spelling words.
11. Rainbow Words Write your spelling words with a crayon. Trace over each word with another
color. Now trace each word one more time with another color. DO NOT use black or brown.
12. Ladder (Stair) Words Write each spelling word as shown below:

13. Cut 10 of your spelling words out of a newspaper or magazine. Glue them on construction
paper.
14. Cut out a picture from a newspaper or a magazine and use spelling words to write a story about
the picture.
15. Fontabulous - Write each spelling word three different ways: print, cursive, all capital letters,
block, etc.

Kinesthetic Choices (Signature Required)


16. Moving Words - Spell each word 3 times while jumping, clapping, bouncing or kicking a ball,
shooting hoops etc. one repetition per letter.
17. Salty Words Write each word 3 times in a plate of salt or sand.
18. 3-D Words Create letters out of play-do or modeling clay and spell words.
19. Dancing Words Have student make each letter with their whole body and spell each word two
times.
20. Spelling Bee! Spell each word out loud at least three times in a spelling bee fashion to an adult.
