SYMPHONY NO.

I IN D MAJOR (2016)
Davison Avery Yon
I Allegro (15 minutes)
attacca

II Adagio (7 minutes)
attacca

III Presto (8 minutes)

Writing for Symphony No. I in D Major began in the winter of 2014 and was completed
in the spring of 2016. It is written for 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons, 1
Contrabassoon, 3 Horns in F, 4 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, 1 Tuba, Timpani, and Strings (Violin I,
Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, and Double Bass). Unlike typical symphonies, none of the
movements work well as standalone pieces as themes are often left undeveloped when they are
introduced and take the entire composition to discover what they finally develop into. Inspiration
for the compositional style comes from Richard Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring
Cycle), as he intended his four music dramas to be played together in a cycle due to characters
and events being shared across the compositions.

About Davison Yon2619

Davison Yon, born in Atlanta, Georgia, is a student violinist and composer at Cleveland State
University. Davison began his musical endeavors at the age of seven after hearing a performance
of Stravinskys Firebird Suite performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Following the
performance, Davison began seeking more information about string instruments and music
composition. Having come from a musical family, it was not difficult for Davison to get ahold of
music notation software and a violin.
Davison is an alumni of the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and current student at
Cleveland State University (Cleveland, OH). He is studying music education and composition
with teachers that include Kenneth Johnston, Andrew Rindfleisch, Gregory D'Alessio, and
Jonathan Sokol. Davisons musical style can be loosely associated with that of neo-classicism
and chromaticism. Davison is a pending member of the American Society of Composers,
Authors, and Publishers. Additional information can be found online via his website at:
