Fruit and Vegetables
This enjoyable teaching activity is made up of several vocabulary games that help students
learn the names of fruits and vegetables.

Before class, make one copy of the four worksheets for each pair of students. Cut into cards as
indicated, keep the two sets of vocabulary cards and picture cards separate. If you feel your
students don't need to learn all the words, simply select the cards that you feel are the most
appropriate.

Procedure

Divide the students into pairs.

Give each pair a set of fruit and vegetable vocabulary cards and picture cards, keeping the
vocabulary and picture cards separate.

Each pair will also need a pen and paper for keeping score.

Tell the students to shuffle the two sets of cards. Then ask them to spread the cards out face
down on the table.

Students then take it in turns to turn over a vocabulary card and a picture card.

If the word matches with the picture, the student wins a point.

The student then writes the name of the fruit or vegetable on the back of the picture card and
keeps the card. The vocabulary card is removed from the game. The student then has another
turn.

If the cards dont match, the student turns them over again, so the cards are facing down.

The students play until all the cards have been matched.

When all the cards have been correctly matched, ask the students to put all the picture cards
face up on the table.

The students then divide the picture cards into two piles: fruit and vegetables.

When they have correctly assigned the fruits and vegetables to their respective category, the
students see if they can remember the names of the fruits and vegetables by choosing a picture
card and then saying the word.

They then turn over the card to see if the word on the back of the card matches with their
answer.

If it does, they keep the card and score a point. If not, the card is removed from the game.

When the cards have been used up, the students add up all their points and see who the winner
is.
