National Examination (Title)

The national examination is one of organized government assessments to measure student
success. the final value national exams that later determine a student graduation or not
worthy of the school. This is a cause debates and controversy in the community and among
teachers. How about your own??.

(Arguments For)
On one side of the national examination considered to improve the quality of education of a
country. With the national exam schools and teachers will be encouraged to be able to
better services for the students as possible and make every effort to make their students to
pass the exam. so the students will be encouraged to study in earnest to get as much value
as possible to prove that he could graduation.

However, there are those which disagree if the value of the national exam used to measure
student success in learning at school. Therefore it actually makes students become
overburdened with a value that must be achieved. This is what makes the students would
think to cheat a friend or buy a the answer key to its jockey matter, which is now found to
Semarang. student thinks he bought the key, he will get which maximum value. In fact it is
so considered dishonest and can affect not good for students who are serious about the
national exam.

Actually school exam is absolutely necessary because it can encourage students to learn
more serious and also useful to measure the success of the learning process. Is the national
exam as the sole determinant of student graduation or combined with the end of school
exams, legitimate debate. And the government's policy discourse in the subjects adding
UAN into 6 subjects were legitimate - legitimate course of debate, as long as government
policy is offset by equipping facilities and infrastructure in all schools equally.
Pros and Cons of Facebook
Facebook is such an interesting platform on which to watch the lives of others unfold.
By using facebook, people stick it all out there. There are a number of things Ive
observed about what I see and read on Facebook. However there are about the pros
and cons.
One thing that people like using facebook because it is helpful in documenting life. In
an age where theres not always time to keep a private journal, take photos, develop
them and put them in a scrapbook, Facebook is a wonderful way of keeping a log of all
the good things that happen in your life.
However using Facebook is sometime wasting of time. How easy it is to get sucked into
whats happening on your news feed, reading statuses or most times looking at
endless photos of the lives of others. There have been many times that Facebook has
distracted us.

Definition:

Discussion text is a text which presents a problematic discourse. This problem will be
discussed from different points of view. It presents pro and contra opinion on certain issue.

Purpose:

To present different opinions on a particular issue or topic arguments for and


against/positive and negative/good and bad.

Generic Structures:

1. Issue: Contains of statement and preview about something

2. Supporting point: After stating the issue, it is necessary to present the argument
to support that one point is agreeing.

3. Contrastive point: Beside the supporting argument, discussion text needs the
arguments which disagree to stated issue.

4. Recommendation/conclusion: It is used to tell how to solve issue by connecting


the arguments for and against.

Language Features:

1. Introducing category or generic participant

3. Using thinking verb

4. Using additive, contrastive, and casual connection

I have been wondering if homework is necessary. I think we should have homework


because it helps us to learn and revise our work. Homework helps people who arent very
smart to remember what they have learned. Homework is really good because it helps with
our education. But, many times, doing home is not a great idea. I think we shouldnt have
homework because I like to go out after school to a restaurant or the movies. Sometimes
homework is boring and not important. I think homework is bad because I like to play and

Do Teenagers Really Need a Mobile Phone?

Nowadays, mobile phones are becoming an extremely popular electronic for people. They

phone owners, however. Its debatable whether a teenager actually needs a mobile phone,
but mostly they will say that a phone was essential to their happiness and social standing.
Without a mobile phone, the average teenager is unable to functionthey cant talk to their
friends and life just isnt worth living. But before you give in and rush off to buy your
petulant teenager a brand new iPhone, read the following list.

One of the reasons of letting a teenager have a mobile phone is because one way of making
a teenager do exactly what you want is by using a combination between bribery and
blackmail. They will do what you want easily if you offer to put more data on their mobile
phone. Second reason is that mobile phone can also be an excellent way of staying in touch
with a teenager when they are away from home. Third, many cell phones enable the
teenager to access internet. By using this feature, teenagers can obtain answers to
questions very quickly and easily. The last, if a teenager has a mobile phone, they can use it
to call for help in a sticky situation for some reason. In such condition, having a cell phone
handy could be a lifesaver.

In spite of having some advantages, letting teenagers have a mobile phone has also some
disadvantages. First, cheating can be done more easily by using mobile phone since
students can search or text the answers under their desks during tests. Second, mobile
phones can be very distracting from some important activities in a childs life such as
studying, doing homework, or even crossing the street. Third, sexual content which can be
accessed easily is also an issue for parents to consider before giving a mobile phone for
their child.

Everything must have its good and bad effect, and mobile phone must too. We need to be
wise to use such a sophisticated technology in our lives. As parents, we can set guidelines
for our children on when they are able to use their cell phones or give a suitable phone for
their age so that we can get more advantages from purchasing a mobile phone for our

menggunakan hanphone di bawah meja mereka selama tes. Kedua, ponsel bisa sangat
mengganggu beberapa kegiatan penting dalam kehidupan seorang anak seperti belajar,
mengerjakan PR, atau bahkan menyeberang jalan. Ketiga, konten seksual yang dapat
diakses dengan mudah juga menjadi masalah bagi orang tua untuk dipertimbangkan

Semuanya pasti memiliki efek baik dan buruk, dan ponsel pun juga. Kita harus bijaksana

Is National Examination Necessary?

National examination has become a hot topic to discuss in Indonesia. The main controversy
regarding to national examination is whether or not it is necessary to continue the national
exams (UN). Some other debates focus on whether the quality of Indonesian education
depends on the national exam and whether the quality of the Indonesian education system
will worsen without national exam.

For those who support the national exam, they believe that the quality of the Indonesia
education system will get worse without the national exam, so they try to defend the
current system. They also believe that national exam can be used to measure how far
educational program designed by the government works.

However, for those who disagree with national exam, the result of national exam cant give
the clear image of students ability in general since the issues of cheating always happen.
Furthermore, the national exam only measures a small portion of students competence in
specific subjects, and does not measure students competences throughout the semester.

Above all, the national examination can still be used as an instrument to evaluate the level
of students cognitive competence in certain subjects, on a national scale.

Apakah Ujian Nasional Diperlukan?

Ujian nasional telah menjadi topik panas untuk dibahas di Indonesia. Kontroversi utama

Generic Structure:

General statement: Stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.

Sequenced explanation: Stating a series of steps which explain the phenomenon.

Language Feature:

1. Featuring generic participant: sun, rain, etc.

2. Using chronological connection: to begin with, next, etc.

3. Using passive voice pattern

4. Using simple present tense

How does Rain Happen?

Rain is the primary source of fresh water for most areas in the world, providing suitable
conditions for diverse ecosystems, as well as water for hydroelectric power plants and
crops irrigation. The phenomenon of rain is actually a water circle. The concept of the
water cycle involves the sun heating the Earths surface water and causing the surface
water to evaporate. The water vapor rises into the Earths atmosphere. The water in the
atmosphere cools and condenses into liquid droplets. The droplet grows until they are
heavy and fall to the earth as precipitation which can be in the form of rain or snow.
However, not all rain reaches the surface. Some evaporates while falling through dry air.

Explanation adalah sebuah teks yang berisi tentang proses-proses yang berhubungan

B. Tujuan Explanation Text

To explain the processes involved in the formation or working of natural or socio-cultural


phenomena.

Tujuan komunikatif dari explanation text adalah untuk menerangkan proses-proses yang
terjadi dalam pembentukan sesuatu yang terkait dengan fenomena-fenomena alam, sosial,
ilmu pengetahuan, budaya, dan lainnya yang bertujuan menjelaskan bagaimana atau
mengapa hal tersebut bisa terjadi.

C. Generic Structure Explanation Text

General statement

tentang penjelasan umum tentang fenomena yang akan dibahas, bisa berupa pengenalan
fenomena tersebut atau penjelasannya.

Squenced of explanation

berisi tentang penjelasan proses mengapa fenomena tersebut bisa terjadi atau tercipta. A
squenced of explanation berupa jawaban dari pertanyaan why dan how penulis ketika
membuat sebuah Explanation text. Dalam squenced of explanation bisa terdiri lebih dari
satu paragrap.

Closing

Sebenarnya closing itu tidak tercantum dalam generic structure dari Explanation text,
tetapi kebanyakan orang beranggapan bahwa paragrap terakhir dari sebuah Explanation
text adalah closing, padahal itu merupakan bagian dari squenced of explantaion yang berisi
tentang langkah akhir yang dijelaskan pada bagian squenced of explanation.
D. Ciri-ciri Explanation Text

Sebuah Explanation text biasanya berasal dari pertanyaan penulis terkait why dan how
terhadap suatu fenomena yang ada.

Karena yang diangkat adalah fenomena maka fokus materinya bukan pada bendanya atau
orangnya, melainkan pada kejadian atau peristiwa yang terjadi pada orang atau benda
tersebut.

Earthquake is one of the most destroying natural disasters. Unluckily it often happens in
several regions. Recently a horrible earthquake has shaken West Sumatra. It has brought
great damages. Why did it occur? Do you know how an earthquake happens?

Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault.
This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves. It make the ground shake. When
two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. They
dont just slide smoothly. The rocks are still pushing against each other, but not moving.
After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure thats built up. When the rocks
break, the earthquake occurs.

During the earthquake and afterward, the plates or blocks of rock start moving, and they
continue to move until they get stuck again. The spot underground where the rock breaks
is called the focus of the earthquake. The place right above the focus is called the epicenter
of the earthquake.

Paragraf kedua: Squenced of explanation adalah penjelasan tentang bagaimana Earthquake


bisa terjadi. Gempa bumi bisa terjadi pada dasarnya adalah karena rock underground
suddenly breaks along a fault. Penjelasan lainnya adalah tentang kronologi how rock

Paragraf ketiga: closing yang menerangkan bahwa pergeseran lempeng bumi terus terjadi
dan menerangkan bahwa titik di bawah bumi dimana batu mengalami patahan (where the
rock breaks) disebut sebagai Focus of the eartquake dan tempat di atas titik tersebut
disebut epicenter of earthquake.

Hujan adalah salah satu sumber utama air bersih untuk sebagian besar manusia di dunia.
Hujan menyediakan kondisi yang sesuai untuk ekosistem yang beragam. Hujan juga
digunakan sebagai pembangkit listrik dan irigasi tanaman. Namun, tahukah anda
bagaimana hujan terjadi?

Fenomena hujan adalah sebuah fenomena yang sering kita sebut sebagai water circle /
siklus perputaran air. Konsep siklus air melibatkan matahari yang memanaskan

Definition:

Review text is an evaluation of publication, such as a movie, video game, musical


composition, book; a piece of hardware like a car, home appliance, or computer; or an
event or performance, such as a live concert, a ply, musical theater show or dance show.

Purpose:

Review text is used to critic the events or art works for the reader or listener, such as
movies, shows, book, and others.

To critique or evaluate an art work or event for a public audience

Generic Structure:

Orientation/Introduction: General information of the text.

Interpretative Recount: Summary of an art works including character and plot.

Evaluation: Concluding statement: Judgment, opinion, or recommendation. It can


consist of more than one.

Summary: The last opinion consist the appraisal or the punch line of the art works
being criticized.

Language Features:

1. Using the present tense

2. Focus on specific participants

3. Using adjectives form example like ad, good, valuable, etc.

4. Using long and complex clauses

5. Using metaphor (in Indonesia its called Majas/Pengandaian


Pengertian Review Text

Mungkin sebagian orang pernah melihatnya bahkan pernah membuatnya. Review Text
adalah salah satu dari jenis teks bahasa Inggris (genre) yang ditujukan untuk meninjau
suatu karya baik berupa film, buku, benda dan lain sebagainya untuk mengetahui kualitas,
kelebihan dan kekurangan yang dimiliki karya tersebut yang ditujukan untuk pembaca
atau pendengar khalayak ramai.

Tujuan Komunikatif Review Text

Tujuan komunikatif dari Review Text adalah melakukan kritik terhadap peristiwa atau
karya seni untuk pembaca atau pendengar khalayak ramai, misalnya film, pertunjukan,
buku, dll.

Generic Structure Review Text

Setiap jenis teks bahasa Inggris (genre) memiliki ciri Generic Structure yang berbeda-beda
sesuai dengan tujuan komunikatif yang akan disampaikan kepada pembaca. Dan untuk
Generic Structure dari Review Text, terdapat 4 struktur kalimat, yaitu:

1. Introduction

Seperti jenis teks bahasa Inggris (genre) yang lainnya, pada paragraph pertama dari
sebuah Review Text berisi tentang gambaran umum tentang sebuah karya atau benda yang
akan ditinjau. Gambaran umum tentang karya atau benda tersebut bisa berupa nama,
kegunaan, dan sebagainya.

2. Evaluation

Pada Generic Structure yang kedua, Evaluation, memberikan gambaran tentang detail
suatu karya atau benda yang direview, bisa berupa bagian-bagian dari karya atau benda
tersebut, keunikan dan kualitasnya. Tapi jangan terlalu memberikan banyak deskripsi
tentang karya atau benda tersebut, karena teks review kita seakan-akan "mengajarkan"
calon pembeli dan itu tidak bagus. Evaluasi karya atu benda sejauh yang dibutuhkan oleh
pembeli adalah yang paling benar. Istilah yang digunakan dalam sturktur paragraph yang
kedua ini tidak jauh dari kata "baik" atau "tidak" karya atau benda tersebut. Pada bagian
evaluasi, biasanya terdiri lebih dari satu evaluasi.

3. Interpretation

Pada bagian ketiga ini, penulis memberikan pandangannya sendiri mengenai karaya atau
benda yang direviewnya. Tentunya phase ini dilakukan setelah melakukan evaluasi yang
cukup terhadap karya atau barang tersebut. Seringkali untuk mendukung dan memperkuat
pandangan penulis mengenai karya atau benda yang direviewnya, penulis tersebut
membandingkan karya atau benda tersebut dengan karya atau benda yang mirip. Pada
phase ini juga penulis menuliskan di bagian apa karya atau benda tersebut bernilai atau di
bagian apa karya atu benda tersebut kurang bernilai.

4. Summmary

Pada bagian ini, penulis memberikan kesimpulan kepada pembaca terhadap karya atau
benda yang telah direviewnya. Setelah memberikan penjelasan di evaluasi dan pandangan
penlis sendiri di interpretation, tibalah penulis memberikan komentar apakah karya atau
benda yang direviewnya berharga atau tidak untuk calon pembeli.

Ciri Kebahasaan (Language Features)

Pada Review Text terdapat beberapa ciri kebahasaan seperti berikut ini:

1. Menggunakan present tense.

2. Banyak menggunakan adjective (kata sipat) seperti, bad, good, valuable, etc.

3. Sering menggunakan long clause (klausa panjang) dan kompleks.

Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix

Orientation

I absolutely love the Harry Potter series, and all of the books will always hold a special
place in my heart.

Evaluasi 1

I have to say that of all of the books, however, this was not my favorite.

Evaluasi 2

When the series began it was as much of a "feel good" experience as a huge mug of hot
cocoa. The stories were bright, fast-paced, intriguing, and ultimately satisfying.

Interpretation

Order of the Phoenix is a different kind of book. In some instances this works...you feel a
whole new level of intensity and excitement by the time you get to the end. I was truly
moved by the last page. Other times the book just has a slightly dreary, depressing feel. The
galloping pace of the other books has slowed to a trot here, and parts of it do seem long, as
if we're reading all about Harry "just hanging out" instead of having his usual adventures.
Reading in detail about Harry cleaning up an old house, for example - housekeeping is still
housekeeping, magical or no, and I'm not very interested in doing it or reading about other
people doing it.

A few other changes in this book - the "real" world comes much more in to play rather than
the fantasy universe of the previous books, and Harry has apparently been taken off his
meds. I know that he had a lot to be grumpy in this book, especially with being a teenager
and all, but the sudden change in his character seemed too drastic. He goes from being a
warm-hearted, considerate person to someone who will bite his best friend's heads off over
nothing. It just seemed like it didn't fit with his character, like he turned into a walking
clich of the "angry teen" overnight.

Summary

The "real" story seemed to happen in the last 1/3 of the book, and this part I
loved. I actually liked the ending (and yes, I cried!) as sad as it was. It packed a
punch and it made me care about the story even more. Still a really good book,
with some editing it would have been great.
