Configuration Download over Ethernet

The bulletin describes the procedure for setting up D20, D25, or D200 equipment to accept
configuration downloads/ over the Ethernet, significantly decreasing the amount of time required to
download large configurations. For, example, a configuration requiring 20 minutes to download
serially will download, decompress and reboot in approximately one and a half minutes.

Required Equipment and Software

A personal computer equipped with an Ethernet interface card is required.

Supported Products
Ethernet downloading is supported on D20, D25 and D200 products.

D20 and D200 systems must be equipped with a Greenspring VME Carrier card and an IPEthernet
Lance 10Base2 or 10BaseT transition module. This applies to both D20M++ and D20ME systems. At
the time of this writing, the D20 EME (Ethernet Memory Expansion) and VK (VME Retrofit Kit)
products are not available. However, when they become available, there will no longer be a need for
the Greenspring products. They will be replaced by the D20 EME and its associated adapter module.

The D25 hardware must be configured to support either 10Base2, 10BaseT or 10BaseFL.

Applications
The firmware set must, at a minimum, include the following applications:

P038-0 CCU base system

P112-0 iSCS internet software consisting of the following applications:

B100-0 Internet Protocol Stack

B110-0 Stackware Basic
B111-0 Stackware TCP
B112-0 Stackware BOOTP Client
B054-0 TFTP File Manager
A162-0 Internet Statistics Display (optional but recommended)

P151-0 68K File System which consists of the following applications:

B059-0 ZLIB Data Decompression Application

B064-0 Download File Storage
B074-0 Monitor File System
B130-0 DBMR File System

7. Select the LAN Specific tab and enter the LAN address of the device, for example:

LAN A Address 192.168.1.21

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Downloading Instructions

Generate the configuration by selecting Generate from the Device menu, and then selecting All
Tables.

If there are any errors, correct them and repeat the step above.

The configuration for TFTP File Manager (B054) plus all of the Ethernet-related information (such as
IP addresses) must be present in the device memory before you can download over Ethernet. For this
reason, the configuration must be downloaded serially the first time.

If the configuration ever becomes corrupted and the message CCU is DISABLED! appears, you must
download the configuration serially again.

If the actual system configuration is very large, it is advantageous to create a configuration containing
only the applications required to initialize the device to accept Ethernet downloads/.

To perform a serial download:

1. Connect a Wesmaint cable between the PC and the devices Wesmaint port.
2. In Config Pro, select Device / Communications / Communication Options.
3. On the Interface tab, select Direct Serial.
4. Select the Port Settings tab and use the following settings:

Baud Rate: 9600

Data Bits: 8
Parity: Noneo Stop Bits: 1
Stop Bits: 1
Disable all Flow Control options
5. Click OK.
6. Connect to the device using the window icon on toolbar.
7. Press function key 7 (F7) to download.

When the serial download is complete, you can download over Ethernet. To perform an Ethernet
download, complete the following steps.

1. Connect the appropriate cable between the PC and the device (10base2 or 10baseT).
Note: If the connection is 10baseT and is directly connected between the PC and the device (versus
over a corporate LAN), a 10baseT crossover cable is required.
2. In Config Pro, select Device / Communications / Communication Options.
3. On the Interface tab, select iSCS LAN.
4. Select the Preferred LAN as configured above.
5. Click OK.
6. Select Device / Communications / Configuration Download to initiate a download over
Ethernet.

The download is complete when the Downloading Configuration window closes.
