Da Lat City could face water shortage in 10 years.

Da Lat city could face a clean water shortage in the future because of heavy

pollution around its local lakes.

Dankia Lake, 20km north of the city in Lac Duong district, currently supplies 80% of

the citys water but has become heavily polluted.

Every day, tons of garbage produced by agricultural and tourism activities in the

surrounding areas are transported to the lake.

The water is currently contaminated with a level of E.coli bacteria 12 times above the

acceptable limit.

The water quality has been evaluated at Class C, the lowest based on the provinces

department of natural resources and environments criteria.

According to the Department, the city could be left with no clean water in as few as

10 years if the current situation persists
