INTRODUCTION TO VADILAL

History
Today, the name Vadilal conjures images of lip-smacking ice cream in a whole gamut of flavours. Vadilal
spells quality, availability, variety and state-of-the-art machinery and equipment.It has, however, been a
long journey for the group, which traces its origins way back to 1907, when a certain unassuming
gentleman, by the name of Vadilal Gandhi, the great-grand father of Virendra R Gandhi, Rajesh R Gandhi
and Devanshu L Gandhi, started a soda fountain. He passed on the business to his son, Ranchod Lal, who
ran a one-man show, and, with a hand cranked machine, started a small retail outlet in 1926. Eventually,
Ranchod Lal's sons, Ramchandra and Lakshman, inherited the business and they were instrumental in
giving a newdirection to the company. The duo imparted a new vision to the venture and infused a spirit
of calculated risk-taking into the company. As a result, by the 1970s, the Vadilal Company had already
evolved into a modern corporate entity.

"In 1972-73, the company had 8-10 outlets in Ahmedabad. Gradually, we moved from the city to other
parts of Gujarat. By 1985, the company moved towards neighbouring states like Rajasthan and Madhya
Pradesh. But the expansion was undertaken very methodically and we spent five to six years in spreading
our business and then consolidating it"says Shri Ramchandrabhai Gandhi (Chairman).
Today, VADILALis not just a brand it is the ice-cream associated with the Indian summer; it&s the first
choice in ice-cream for any child or adult during the scorching Indian summers. VADILAL ice-creams are

History

has since been known by its current umbrella name. At the same time, other brands acquired by
Hindustan Unilever, such as Gaylord-Milkfood, were phased out in favour of promoting the Kwality Wall's
brand. This arrangement allows for local production and sale of Wall's products that are popular in its
home market, such as the Cornetto cone, and to create local variations on others, such as the Feast
Jaljeera Blast. Kwality Wall's was ranked 464th among India's most trusted brands according to the Brand
Trust Report 2012, a study conducted by Trust Research Advisory. In the Brand Trust Report 2013, Kwality
Wall's was ranked 632nd among India's most trusted brands and subsequently, according to the Brand
Trust Report 2014, Kwality Wall's was ranked 382nd among India's most trusted brands In August 2013,
Kwality Wall's extended to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei and Nepal.

Amul Ice Cream was launched on 10th March, 1996 in Gujarat. The portfolio consisted of impulse
products like sticks, cones, cups as well as take home packs and institutional/catering packs. Amul ice
cream was launched on the platform of Real Milk. Real Ice Cream given that it is a milk company and
the wholesomeness of its products gives it a competitive advantageIn 1997, Amul ice creams entered
Mumbai followed by Chennai in 1998 and Kolkata and Delhi in 2002. Nationally it was rolled out across
the country in 1999.It has combated competition like Walls, Mother Dairy and achieved the No 1
position in the country. This position was achieved in 2001 and it has continued to remain at the top.Not
only has it grown at a phenomenal rate but has added a vast variety of flavours to its ever growing range.
Currently it offers a selection of 220 products. Amul has always brought newness in its products and the
same applies for ice creams.

In January 2007, Amul introduced SUGAR FREE & ProLife Probiotic Wellness Ice Cream, which was a first
in India. This range of SUGAR FREE, LOW FAT Diabetic Delight & ProLife Probiotic Wellness Ice Cream is
created for the health conscious.

Havmor journey dates back, all the way to 1944. Shri Satish Chona was working as a ground engineer in
the BOAC (British Overseas Aircraft Corporation) when his love for food blossomed. By night, he started
creating his very own ice-cream using a combination of pure milk, unique ingredients, and his passion for
flavor. His legacy lives on today and over seventy years along the journey our endeavour remains the
