Discussion

pH meters measure the electrode potential which must be related to the [H+] or [OH-]
of the solution by comparison against known [H+] or [OH-] standard buffers. In other words,
the pH meter must be calibrated in order to obtain accurate results. A standard procedure for
calibrating pH meters is to prepare a linear working curve known as a calibration curve by
plotting the measured potential as a function of ph or poh.
The pH meter has a membrane that allows H+ ions to pass though, which allows a
current to flow, creating a voltage. The voltage is measured by the meter and you tell it which
standard buffer it is in. The pH meter then compares the voltage of your unknown solutions
to that of the buffers to determine the pH of your solution.

In pH calibration it important to make accuracy .without the standardized pH buffer to

calibrate the meter the result will be inaccurate and useless.

Ph is very important in fruit fuic industry because it reduces potential problems from
microoganisms in several ways which is minimizing zicrobial growth on equipment by
cleaning and sanitizing and in the product itself by afjusting storage temperature,pH, and
other environmental factors. Thus it can Minimizing contamination from equipment, people,
the environment, and from unprocessed food. Then Removing or destroying them by
trimming, washing, heating, pickling, by adding chemicals, or by encouraging competition by
acid- or alcohol-forming organisms.

Your body's pH is a indication of health. Different organs have different pH levels but
overall, your body's pH should be 7. The pH of healthy blood is 7.35. Thus slightly alkaline.
Read below how your pH affects your health and how you can influence it.
