Lesson idea implementation:
In this lesson, students will learn how to add any number 1-9 to make 10. The project will be introduced with
the video on BrainPop to give the students instructions on how to do the adding and examples of what
numbers can be added together to make 10. Next, the class as a whole will complete the review quiz on
BrainPop. Finally, students will get in pairs and work with their counter chips to find different ways to add to
10. This whole activity will take 30 minutes to complete.

While the pairs are working, the teacher will walk around and make sure the work is done correctly. An
opportunity for higher learning would be to allow students to add even bigger numbers with the counters.
The lesson will be concluded with having the class draw examples of counter chip combinations that equal 10
on the Smart Board for everyone to see. Feedback will be given to students as progress is checked during the
partner work time.
