Bring A Friend Sunday HARVEY RELIEF

September 10
Dear Friends,
Childrens Wednesday Art Like Lenee and I you have probably been watching the flooding in Houston and the res-
Classes beginning cues that are going on, and felt as if there must be something I can do. Many of you most
Wednesday, September 20 likely have family and friends affected by the storm. Rev. Scott Moore at the Mission
Center in Conroe has some flood buckets ready to go, but I know that there will be a
Coffee Talk at the Coffee need for additional kits. I want to remind you that 100% of your donation to the United
Station (2nd Floor) beginning Methodist Committee on Relief (UCMOR) goes directly to relief efforts. The administra-
Wednesday, September 20 tive cost at UMCOR are funded by our annual apportionments, thats part of the beauty
of our connectional system. Those contributions are the best way to help right now.
There is a link on our webpage (www.fumcnac.org) where you can make a contribution to
Confirmation 2017-18 in the church for Harvey Relief, and we will quickly get it to UMCOR. We are in contact with
Room 208 beginning Dr. Dick White, our District Superintendent, Rev. Moore, and Bishop Jones as to how we
Sunday, September 10 can provide whatever help is needed. I have also spoken to Mike Butchko about the pos-
sibility of our church becoming a shelter as the rains head into East Texas. As we hear
Disciple IV Bible Study in the more about other donations and work teams, we will keep you posted. Please continue to
Conference Room beginning be in prayer. I want to remind you of these words from Jesus in the Gospel of Mat-
Sunday, September 10 thew: Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is
like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock. The rain fell, the floods came,

and the wind blew and beat against that house. It didnt fall because it was firmly
set on bedrock." Our faith is built on the rock of Gods mercy and grace; these are diffi-

A Note From The Pastor
In Pauls letter to the church at Rome, in the 12th chapter, he writes: So,
brothers and sisters, because of Gods mercies, I encourage you to pre-
sent your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God.
This is your appropriate priestly service. Dont be conformed to the pat-
terns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so
that you can figure out what Gods will iswhat is good and pleasing
and mature.
Part of figuring out Gods will in our lives is knowing our spiritual gifts and
then using those gifts to bring about transformation in our community.
Using our spiritual gifts makes us participants with God in our lives here
on earth. On August 27th, we started a new sermon series based on a
few of the Spiritual Gifts mentioned in Romans, I Corinthians and Ephe-
PASTORS CORNER sians.
There are lots of great things happening this Fall including the start of
our 2017-2018 Confirmation Class and Bring a Friend Sunday on September 10.

Peace,

A Note From The Associate Pastor

We boast in the hope of Gods glory. But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know
that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope
doesnt put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit,
who has been given to us ~ Romans 5:2b-5 (CEB)

Being surrounded by so much devastation and anxiety in the past week, makes it almost impossible
for us to imagine that there is hope in the midst, so many of us are asking where can we find hope
through so much loss. Romans 5 instruction to us is that we do not focus our hope in our situations
or circumstances. Our hope is dependent on our relationship with God through Jesus Christ and the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. Our relationship with God gives us an open door to everything that has
been promised us in the Word of God.

God promises to never leave us alone, the presence of God is always there when we need it, it is
reliable and certain to be there when we call. If we are always looking to God from the midst of our
situations and circumstances, then we have reason to hope.

Remember God is the anchor that always holds, no matter how severe the storm may be. We have
hope because we know God loves us, and has proven that love by giving his Son for us. Romans
8:28, All things work together for good to those who love and serve God faithfully. It may be diffi-
cult for us to see and understand how this is accomplished now, but God has promised and will sure-
ly deliver.
Grace,
