ABSTRACT

Kilwa Road Police Barracks Hospital has now become one of the Major
Hospital in Temeke Municipal. It serves a lot of People from all areas
surrounding the Kilwa Road Police Barracks which includes Keko, Kurasini,
Mivinjeni and some Changombe area. Due to increasing in number of Patients
there is a need for the expansion of hospital infrastructure that include the
construction of new children ward block which the hospital seems to lack as the
children are mixed up with adults in one ward. The best solution required to
solve the problem is to design the children ward block which meet the structural
and architectural requirements. The methodology used includes performing soil
tests in order to identify the soil properties and bearing capacity of the soil for
stability of the structure, limit state structural design method to ensure that the
structure meet the ultimate and serviceability limit states,as well as structural
designing software, empirical formula and tables for designing different
structural elements. This project is based on the designing of such structural
elements of the structure as beam, slab, columns, staircase and foundation. The
presence of new proposed children ward block and other infrastructure
expansion will enhance suitable health services providing as there will be good
serving conditions for Doctors, Nurses and other hospital staffs.
