Summer Reading Success!
Dear Parents,
Fri., Sept. 22 School Pictures AM Thank you so much to those of you who were able to have your children take part
in our Summer Reading Program over this past summer. We were so pleased with
Fri. Sept. 22 Popcorn day the number of students who participated! Each Tuesday over the summer several
staff lived out our Better Together school wide theme as they volunteered to run
Fri. Sept. 29 HHS Homecoming the library for book check out and distributed free books to students. Each
Tuesday we averaged 80-100+ students! 80+ students attended our program five
Mon. Oct. 2 5th Grade Can or more times throughout the summer. The success of this program is now

evident in our students reading levels as we start this school year.

News from the Art Room: ARTPRIZE


The Hudsonville Public Schools Art Program is participating in ArtPrize this
year! This includes all of the students at Park Elementary! This collaborative art
project is based on the book, Only One You, by Linda Kranz. It celebrates the
uniqueness of each child within a larger school of fish. Each childs brightly
painted fish rock will join the school of fish, swimming together, and
symbolizing our children entering the world and making it a better place.
Altogether, around 6,000 rocks have been painted by Hudsonville art students in
grades PK-12. Stop out and enjoy the art! ArtPrize Dates: September 20 -

5TH GRADE CAN DRIVE
Starting Monday, October 2-6, Park School will be having a Can/Bottle Drive. All of the proceeds raised will go to help reduce the cost of 5th
grade camp. The winning K-4 class will have a fun filled hour with the winning 5th grade class. The actual activity/prize will be announced at a
later date. Dont forget to bring in your bottles and cans to school to help your class win and to help out our 5th graders!!!

Help us Color the Park! Color the Park will take place on Friday, October 6th. Food and pre-party will begin at 4:30 pm and the

Irma / Harvey Hurricane Relief Opportunity


For the next week, we will be partnering with International Aid by collecting personal hygiene items. We are looking to collect:
toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, diapers, baby wipes, and baby powder. These items cannot be opened
and theyd prefer full size products rather than travel size.
All donations can be placed in the bins which are located in each classroom beginning Monday, September 25 until Friday, September
29. International Aid will be picking the donations up Friday, so if we can have all items to school by Friday morning it would be
greatly appreciated!

Attention parents! Please join us for our first Hudsonville Public Schools Parent Connection Night! This event will take place on Tuesday, October 17 from
6:30-8:00 at Baldwin Street Middle School. You will be able to choose 2 different sessions from the following options:
- Screen Time: Impact, Safety and Setting Limits Teaching Kids to Get Along: Navigating the Roads of Friendships and Siblings Home Organization: Simple
Systems to Help Your Entire Family be Successful Positive Behavioral Strategies for Younger Kids: Less Words and More Visuals These sessions will all be
run by Hudsonville staff members Lisa Keskitalo, Kate Randall, Carrie Ysseldyke, and Melissa DeGroot. Child care will be provided for children ages 5 and

The Byron Center Chamber of Commerce is organizing the Inaugural Byron Center Adventure Race onSaturday, October 7, 2017, for youth from age 8 to
age 14. In an exciting, one-hour event,Eight- through Fourteen-year-oldswill work with their teammates to find checkpoints and solve challenges in various
locations within the approximately 31 acres of the Byron Center High School property. Checkpoints will be marked with colored flags; challenges will include
age appropriate physical and mental games and tests which require teamwork. Participants will compete with those of similar ages to win prizes. An After-Race
Bash will help all celebrate the fun!
