What We Did, Whats Coming Up:
Language Arts:
This week in our literacy block, we read books by Laura Numeroff! We read If You Give a Mouse a
Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and If You Take a Mouse to the
Movies. We learned the letters F and E and their sounds. Our favorite activity after doing handwriting
is the directed drawings! This helps us listen to directions, slow down and focus on different parts
while drawing, and the beginning sound of the letter we are working on (i.e. fox for /f/ and engine
for /e/.)Next weeks letters are D and P. Our shared reading poem this week was Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star. With this poem, we listened for rhyming words and worked on concept of word.
Math:
In math workshop this week, we played a couple of Investigation games. We played Grab & Count.
We had to grab a handful of connecting cubes, count using the touch and move strategy, record
our amount with a picture representation, and then try to write how many if we knew the written
number. We also played Roll & Record with the Do-A-Dot painters. This was our favorite activity in
math workshop! For this game, we rolled a number cube and had to count how many dots were on
the side facing up. Then we had to match the dots at the bottom of our page. Whichever number
reached the top of the road was the winner! Some manipulatives that we explored with were Color
Bears, Color Frogs, and Color Animals.
Social Studies:
In our content block, we talked about what a community is and where we live. We discussed and
looked at different types of homes that people live in within a community. After, we listed places
that are also in our community (stores, police station, fire station, grocery store, hospital, etc.). We
worked together to create a mini community that will be available during Purposeful Play with
matchbox cars and little people.
