A teacher has a strong influence on students. He makes the students to learn, how
or what to learn. He also causes interaction between students.

If teacher does not know how to listen, negotiate, persuade effectively, evaluate the
arguments for taking a correct decision then he has no chance to survive in
education society.

Teacher should promote positive outcomes in the lives of the students. Teaching is
not just talking and learning is not just listening.

Effective teachers are able to figure out not only what they want to teach but also
how to do so in a way that students can understand and use the new information
and skills.

2. Characteristics of an Effective Teacher

An effective teacher should posses the following characteristics.

2.1. Enthusiasm

A teacher should be enthusiastic. He should love with his subject matter and teach
it with great passion. His enthusiasm will help the students to enjoy learning the
subject matter.

2.2. Friendliness

Teacher with friendly behavior has more positive influence than teacher with no
friendly behavior. A teacher should not talk about only subject matter but also
about other things related to students personal interests and their social life.
 2.3. Care for Students

Teacher should be caring. Students feel easy and comfort with the teacher who
takes care of his students.

2.4. Humor

Teacher should posses a good sense of humor. By his good sense of humor he can
make the dry subject more interesting and easy to learn.

2.5. Fairness

A teacher should be fair and should treat all students all students equally beyond
favoritism. Students respect the teacher who is fair.

2.6. Patience

A teacher is admired by the students if he is patient and does not show any
unhappiness when students make the same academic mistakes frequently.

3. Characteristics of a language teacher

A teacher of language should posses the following characteristics in plus over the
teachers of other subjects.

3.1. He should be the model of good use of language.

3.2. He should be knowledgeable about the language that he is teaching.
3.3. He should have the ability to explain grammar points.
3.4. He should be able to switch the code whenever it is needed.
