Definition of Terms

Biology - the study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields that cover their morphology,
physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin, and distribution.

Cognitive - the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought,
experience, and the senses.

Context - the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which
it can be fully understood and assessed.

Critical - expressing or involving an analysis of the merits and faults of a work of literature, music, or art.

Domain - a specified sphere of activity or knowledge.

Embed - fix (an object) firmly and deeply in a surrounding mass.

Equality - the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities.

Feminist - a person who supports the advocacy of women's rights based on the equality of the sexes.

Hotlist - a personal list of favorite or most frequently accessed websites compiled by an Internet user.

Inconsistent - acting at variance with one's own principles or former conduct.

Meta-analysis - a quantitative statistical analysis of several separate but similar experiments or studies
in order to test the pooled data for statistical significance

Prevalent - generally or widely accepted, practiced, or favored

Self-regulation - regulating oneself or itself

Societal - relating to an enduring and cooperating social group whose members have developed
organized patterns of relationships through interaction with one another

Standardized - to bring into conformity with a standard

Stereo-typing - a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or
thing.

Tacky - showing poor taste and quality.

Variance - the fact or quality of being different, divergent, or inconsistent.
