WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 25 , 2017

Be sure to stop by our Student of the Week chalkboard hanging on the wall
across from the Teachers Lounge. You will find out more about our Student of the
Week. Students will need to bring in leaves this week for a fall art project. They should be
large and have defined veins on the back.
Check our facebook page for a photo of our Student of the Week as well as photos from some
of our recent activities. Search for me under Elizabeth Carreon. It will be the one with the
profile picture that says Pray the Rosary.
It was great to see a lot of our families at the Family Movie night! I had a blast singing with
some of the girls in our class!

MATH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

This week, students will finish
up their work on place value.
They will work on the Candy Rush project
and present their group findings to the class.
They will have the opportunity to be place
value detectives with the Place Value Detec-
tive Activities, as well. Please continue to
practice their basic addition and subtraction
facts with them. They will need to have a
good grasp of these facts in order to do well in
adding and subtracting greater numbers and
for regrouping. Tutoring for math is from
3:30-4:30 . Title I tutoring is also available.
This week in Language, we
will work on collective nouns
and review all we have learned
about nouns. In spelling, this
weeks words have the sound of long a spelled with
an ai or an ay. In reading, we will read two books
about the relationship between a boy and his grand-
father. Students will chart character traits in order to
compare the different characters. They will have an-
other reading passage for homework on Tuesday.
Stop by our classroom to read their acrostic poems
about apples. They did an excellent job! Tutoring for
reading begins on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30. Title I
tutoring is also available.

HANDWRITING
Students will practice cursive Nn and copy paragraphs about the solar
system and the moon.
 SCIENCE-This week students will identify the phases of the moon.

RELIGION-This week students will learn about the beginning of the

Church with the arrival of the Holy Spirit. This weeks Word of the Week
is opinion-a belief about something not necessarily based on fact or
knowledge. This Weeks Good News comes from Matthew 21:28-32.

SOCIAL STUDIES-Students will assess the similarities and differences

among communities at different times, as well as relate the history of a
community. They will continue to work on map skills during the week.

REMINDERS

We are collecting pop tops for Ronald McDonald House. We have received large collection box and are work-
ing towards filling it up soon as possible! Help us out by sending in pop tops (soda tabs)! We could win a
class party! Thank you, in advance, for your help!
Please send in any prayer intentions that you may have so that we can pray for them during our morning an-
nouncements and during our Friday rosary. Dont forget to send your children with their rosary on Fridays!
We have already received items for our Irish Gala baskets! I will create a list so that we can see exactly what
we have this week and send out an e-mail with the details! I have already asked Alamo Drafthouse for movie
passes and food vouchers. Hopefully, they will come through with those items! If you can, we could use gift
cards from the other theaters i.e. Cinemark, AMC at Eastpoint, Premier at Bassett. You can purchase and do-
nate or ask them for donations, as well. I would like to see if maybe Bob Os, Adventure Zone, the bowling
alley or even Peter Piper will donate family packages for our basket. If anyone would like to help me to ask
these businesses, please let me know. Thank you to everyone who has donated to so far!
