Lesson idea implementation:

PowerPoint will be used throughout this lesson by both the teacher and the students. To begin, the teacher
will play the PowerPoint movie to the class and pause it to allow the students to answer after each question is
asked. This class-wide intro will allow students the opportunity to collaborate with those around them. After
the introduction is complete, the class will be divided into groups of four. Each group will be asked to craft a
PowerPoint Presentation about earth materials to model their understanding of the lesson. The intro
shouldnt take more than 5 minutes, but the entire lesson could be expanded to an hour, depending on how
long the groups need to complete their presentations.

Learning will be assessed and feedback will be provided through grading the PowerPoint presentations that
the groups complete. An extension of the lesson could have students share facts about each of the earth
materials rather than just being able to identify them. Groups could collaborate on this if they finished their
presentations early. The lesson would be concluded by going through the PowerPoint on Earth Materials once
again and allowing the class to answer together. If time allows, student groups could have the opportunity to
share their presentations with the class as well.
