Protg Quick Setup & Guide Rev E 11/09 Hold either button until

This guide is not a substitute for the Protg owners manual. All individuals
who have or will have the responsibility of using or servicing the Protg
must read and understand the contents of the manual prior to operation.

Quick Setup
1) Connect cables and Shoe Pad to Protg. Fully charge the Protg prior to
first use.
2) Install Scott Gas Monitor Software on PC.
3) Use software to
customize alarm settings
and write data to monitor.
4) Remove Shoe Pad and
Power On the Protege.
Perform a ZERO Cal,
SPAN Cal, and daily
BUMP test.
Alerts & Messages
ALARM Alarms: Protg will alert user of alarm conditions through flashing
LEDs, an audible alarm, and vibration. The specific sensor will flash with
a HIGH or LOW indication on the LCD. Alarm intensity increases from a
LOW to a HIGH condition.
Low Battery: The battery icon will flash and activate the alarms.
+++ Over-Range Conditions: Monitors sensor(s) have been exposed to
very high gas concentration exceeding sensor range.
PUMP Pump: Displayed when pump is connected to Protg. Icon flashes
along with activating alarms when a low flow situation occurs.
Sensor Failures: FAL will be indicated along with the sensor type
for each sensor that fails to ZERO or SPAN calibrate.
Calibration Expired: Indicates monitor calibration is overdue. A SPAN
calibration must be performed prior to operation of the Protg
Heart Beat: Blinks to indicate Protg is actively monitoring properly
maintained sensors.
Both buttons must be held together until timer
LCD says RELEASE counts down and LCD shuts down.

DAILY BUMP TEST: If installed, remove optional pump.
Attach the calibration adapter and thread regulator to the
calibration gas cylinder. Connect tubing. Apply gas.
Protg should quickly respond to the target gases CAUTION
and begin alarming. Verify proper operation of alarms. ! Do not operate
the monitor with
If monitor fails to respond (or is slow) or readings
are not with in 10% of the actual gas concentration, the calibration

DAILY MONITOR ZERO CAL: In clean atmosphere, press
and hold the RIGHT operation button. Release when
display reads PLEASE WAIT. Unit will automatically
perform ZERO calibration. Press LEFT button when
display reads APPLY GAS to exit..
SPAN GAS CALIBRATION. The Protgs calibration gas concentration
as set in the Gas Monitor software setting must match actual gas concentration
used. Perform ZERO calibration procedure connecting the calibration adapter
with hose and regulator when APPLY GAS is displayed. Once each sensor is
calibrated, Protege will display CAL PASSED then REMOVE GAS. Remove
calibration adaptor and wait for the monitor main
display to return before operation.
OPTIONAL PUMP. Connect pump as shown. Power on
the Protg or push the left button to activate the pump.
When BLOCK PUMP is displayed, place a finger over Align
