Visiting Rosslyn Chapel: essential information

Please note that last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
Most visitors spend between 1 and 3 hours on site, so please
allow enough time for travelling and enjoying your visit.
Rosslyn Chapel is a working church and may close occasionally for
weddings or funerals. Details will be posted on the Chapel website

The Chapel and Visitor Centre close on 24 and 25 December for
Christmas and 31 December and 1 January for New Year.
Getting to Rosslyn Chapel:
By car:
The Chapel is located within the village of Roslin, off A701; for
satnav, our postcode is EH25 9PU. Look out for the brown tourist
signposts as you approach the village. There is free parking at
the Chapel.
If driving from Edinburgh city centre, follow signs to the Newington
or Liberton areas, then continue along the A701, towards Penicuik.
If driving from east or west of the city, take the A720 Edinburgh
City Bypass to the Straiton junction, then the A701, following signs
to Penicuik.
From the south, follow the A74(M) then the A701 or follow the
signs for the Chapel on the A7 after Newtongrange.
By bus:
There is a good bus service every day to and from Roslin village.
A single journey is currently 1.60 per adult and you must have the
correct money.
From Edinburgh city centre, look for a Lothian Service 37 and check
that it says via Roslin at the front of the bus. If in doubt, please
check with the driver. The journey from the city centre will take
around 45 to 60 minutes and there are stops on Princes Street
(shop side) or North Bridge. The bus comes into Roslin village and
the Chapel is just a few minutes walk from the bus stop at the
Original Rosslyn Hotel.
Service 40 is ideal if you are travelling from Portobello,
Musselburgh, Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Loanhead or Penicuik.
By taxi:
A taxi from Edinburgh will provide direct travel to the Chapel.
The journey time from the city centre will be approximately
40 minutes and a single taxi fare will be around 30.

Your visit:
Rosslyn Chapel Guides give information talks throughout the day,
providing an introduction to the Chapels history and main carvings.
These usually start on the hour (although at 12.15pm rather than
12 noon) and there is no extra charge for these. Talks are optional
for visitors.
Free leaflets, which include maps showing the main carvings, are
available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish,
Russian, Mandarin and Japanese.
Please note that no photography is allowed inside the Chapel,
as this can distract and inconvenience other visitors. There is no
restriction on exterior photography for personal use.
No dogs, apart from assistance dogs, are allowed in the Chapel,
grounds or visitor centre. Information for visitors with disabilities
