Poetry of Slobodan Kosti

Summary
Although he published only five anthologies of poems (not counting two anthologies of selected
poems), Slobodan Kostic is one of the most important Serbian writers from Kosovo and Metohija. In his
poetic opus, we can recognize three stages which associate with the life of the poet the first phase consists
of the first two books of poetry The bullet on a tray (year 1974) and Clash with an angel (year 1977); the
second phase consists of poems from the anthology Reading of a map (year 1983) and Ziliste (year 1987);
while the third stage belongs to one, but perhaps the best anthology of poems The repentant poems (year
2000). The first phase is of a distinctly modern sensibility, negation. The second phase is a native poetry
and it is placed in the homeland of the writer, coiled with mythical aura, initiated by the need for roots and
pointing at him. The third phase is dedicated to the return to God - Firstborn. In Kosti poetry, homeland
and God are one. A homeland as an haven in this world, and God as the eternal haven.
