6.5.1.

The scaffold shall be erected in continuous sequence starting from the corner of the
structure or the highest ground level point. The ground must be compacted first if
the ground is uneven. Four base scaffold pipes are to be placed in the same elevation
and the horizontal scaffold pipes are fixed by means of coupling. All the scaffolds are
to be erected 90 degrees to the other scaffolding pipes. Connect next row of
scaffolds and follow the same procedure.
6.5.2. All scaffoldings shall be securely supported or suspended. Scaffoldings shall have
adequate strength and they shall be fastened to safe anchorage points.
6.5.3. Scaffolds shall have suitable guardrails or ropes all around to prevent persons
working on the scaffolds from slipping down.
6.5.4. Use only controlled approved and inspected scaffolds.
6.5.5. All scaffolds shall be inspected by the person in charge of the work before
commencement of the work.
6.5.6. Planks/ Jolly placed at heights shall be tied firmly at both ends. There shall not be
any over-hanging.
6.5.7. All the scaffoldings, after erection, should be shown to EHS department for safety
approval, and then only the work can be started.
6.5.8. Temporary platform shall be provided for every 1.8 mtrs of height.
6.5.9. All unwanted scaffoldings should be removed immediately after work.
6.5.10. Executing authority before commencing any work shall check inspection and
scaffolds integrity.
6.5.11. Personnel may not work off of ladders or other raised structures, set up on the work
platform of the scaffold.
6.5.12. Supported scaffolds - Must be constructed on secure footings. Typical restraints are
tying into the structure or using outriggers. The scaffold should not have any contacts
or connected to the process lines and any other pipelines which are nearby.
6.5.13. All scaffolding materials shall be inspected and records are maintained by the
contractor as per the controlled equipments procedure.
6.5.14. Detachable scaffolds shall be assembled as per the manufacturers guidelines for use.
