Tutorial 17 CyclePad Isentropic

Expansion

0.9979 kg of helium undergoes an isentropic expansion process

from an initial 4137 kPa and 315.6C to 689.5 kPa. Find the
work performed by the expanding helium. Determine the work
added or removed from the helium during this process. Also
determine the final temperature, the internal energy change,
and entropy change of the gas.

To solve this problem by CyclePad, we take the following steps:

1. Build
(A) Take a begin, an expansion device, and an end from the
closed-system inventory shop and connect them.
(B) Switch to analysis mode.
2. Analysis
(A) Assume the expansion as an isentropic process.
(B) Input the given information: (a) working fluid is helium, (b)
the initial pressure and temperature of the process are 4137
kPa and 315.6C, (c) the mass is 0.9979 kg, and (d) the final
pressure is 689.5 kPa.
3. Display results
The answers are W=933.7 kJ (removed), T=13.73oC;
u=889.3-1825=-935.7 kJ/kg, and s=1.37-1.37=0 kJ/kgK.
